Almost six years ago, in October 2013, we launched version 10 of WebSite X5 together with the FeedReady App, a feed aggregator used to report in a single place contents from different sources.

The idea behind FeedReady was simple: enable all the WebSite X5 Pro users to give their visitors an App to constantly stay up-to-date about the new contents published on their websites.

Many of you have used FeedReady for your projects, but the App, which used to be available for free on Google Play and on the App Store, has never been used enough to be considered as a main function of the program.

Moreover, even if RSS Feeds are still used to easily follow blogs and news portals, nowadays people prefer to use Social Media to find and share contents.

That’s why we have decided to start the process which will lead us to finally discontinue the FeedReady App. We will unfortunately not carry on developing it, and we will not mention it as a tool linked to the software for the future WebSite X5 updates.

How will all this affect the FeedReady users?

First of all, we would like to stress the fact that FeedRead’s will be a gradual departure from the scene.

FeedReady will still be available on Google Play and App Store at least until the first quarter of 2020.

Still, as previously mentioned, it won’t be updated anymore, and some compatibility issues with the operating systems updates might arise over time.

If you invite your website visitors to install and use FeedReady, you should please modify your website by removing this function.

Mind you: this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to use the RSS Feed anymore. You will in fact still be able to set RSS Feeds linked to the website by using other services such as Feedly, Inoreader or NewsBlur.

Some stages

  • With the 2019.1.8 update of WebSite X5, the section for FeedReady will be available only if you open a project where you had already used this function: in this way, you will be able to deactivate the Enable display of the contents in the FeedReady App option.

If, on the other hand, you open a new project or a project where you hadn’t use FeedReady yet, this function will not be listed among the others on Step 1- Settings > Advanced.

  • The FeedReady section will be definitely removed with the release of the last 2019 update of the software. Starting from that moment, the App will keep display the feed news, but it will not receive any push notifications.
  • Finally, during the first months of 2020, FeedReady will be removed from the stores, so it won’t be possible to download and install it.

Conclusions

6 years are a very long time on the Web: think about it and you’ll notice how much the web has changed in such a short time. Social media have changed our habits and the way we find and share information, and therefore the role of the RSS Feed has changed as well.

FeedReady has been an important project to us which has enriched our experience, but it is now time for us to go on and to focus on new challenges.
