Changing 100+ product prices?

This is, fortunately, a hypothetical question:
What is the most efficient way to change a large number of product prices in a working webshop?
Let say that your hypothetical client demands that she/he would like to raise all product prices for 15% - what will you do?
Export to EXCEL and change the prices there?
Will there be any problem while importing?

Thank you in advance for the "brainstorm"!

... waiting for the experts to answer you, ... I can only tell you that, if you know WebSiteX5 well, and if you know your spreadsheet very well, then you can simply use the CSV file ...
ciao

Agree with KolAsim answer.
CSV export
changing prices
import
@Axel, KolAsim: It's not that easy...
There is a problem with exporting Product List.
I posted some time ago ProductList Export/Import Issues need to be fixed!, where I describe issues I found when running an export.
Shortly – if the Description contains CRLF characters (new lines), semicolons or commas – the export file is not valid. Same with category and name/code.
As of now – no suggestions from Incomedia on the fix...

Thank you very much guys for your thoughts!
@ Tom
Yeah, I know that from your answers in that post - that's the main reason I asked.
So CSV export> import would work when is has no semicolons, commas... but what product description doesn't have these?!
So, the only way of getting around this is using your "WSX5 CSV import tool" Tom, right?
... ... ... for those who are prepared, the prerequisite is what I said before, ... otherwise everyone can say anything :

Hello Sinisa
I can confirm that this is probably the best way to go about it.
I would just like that specify that commas should create no problem in the product's description. What must not be used instead is ";". This is due to the fact that the CSV format needs a specific symbol to understand where a column ends and a new one begins. This is what ";" is for and must not be used in the description nor anywhere else
I remain available for any question

@Stefano,
Assuming that the Export file is correct and I want to change the prices or discount - what has to be done to use this file for Import? Do I have to delete the "id" values?
Well, as I pointed in my other post - exported file with Description containing commas - separates the line into number of cells...
For excample:
After every "comma" the next cell is used:

@ Tom
So, we can not use commas in descriptions at all?
Tom, you obviously have experience here - what should I use when tomorrow client wants to change the prices of hundreds of products?
Should I ask for your excel import/export "tool"?
@ Stefano
What about when a new client demands the importing of their CSV product file made previously with some other webshop software?
Can something from that file be successfully imported or would I have to manually enter the data in WSX5?
@Sinisa,
I created this Excel tool in order to make it easier to enter large number of products into the Product List. Instead of doing it through WSX5 GUI, you can put all entries in the spreadsheet. The code behind the buttons will check all the entries, correct what is possible and generate Import file ready to use.
All entries which have been edited are copied into another sheet (“Edited”) in their original form. Any duplicate records (name/code) are listed on the “DUPLICATE names” sheet.
You cannot add all options as you can through GUI – for example: you can add entries to Main Option List, but cannot add Price or Weight differences – Import file doesn’t allow this…
One of the users of this tool (Andy A.) added over 1400 entries without any issues – which proves that it works.
It will not work for changing/editing existing Product List. If there are <new Line> characters or commas anywhere – the Export file will be corrupted and not possible to edit it and make it Import file…
If Incomedia released the location of the X5 Product List and its structure – I’m sure it would be possible to write tools to do much more than Incomedia’s very weak export/import solution.
I can certainly make my tool available, if there was a need for it. All colleagues which used it requested it through the email “polish<dot>prince<at>onet<dot>eu”.
Take care guys,
From Tom's tool, I got this error on Excel 2007.
Axel
I wrote it in Excel 2019... (We exchaned emails about it in June this year... Remember?)
@Tom. Yes I know... Just a reminder for users.
:-)
and for me not tested on other Excel versions.
Axel
What would be best is an enhanced product database structure for X5.... or a feature where prices can be globally adjusted by a fixed amount or a percentage..... - especially good for creating discount groups (resellers, OEMs, Quantity discounts on private access pages
@Adrian - wishfull thinking...
Hopefully Incomedia developers will read it… We've been suggesting such enhancements for years...
Hi Tom, yup, I keep mentioning the wish items whenever I get a chance - one day I will fly to Italy and find and hang out at the cafe that they have lunch at and maybe get to speak to them in person, and become friends, and they will take pity on my requests. Either that or I will find the bar they go to on Fridays and get them all drunk and get them to promise to make all the changes we want.....
Great idea, Adrian!
