Masonry & Justified Gallery seen in Firefox, bug?  en

I've been testing, it seems to be verified, in both Masonry & Justified gallery objects, if you have added images or changed the order of images they will not display properly in Firefox. You must start from scratch to fill the mages into the object again.

Also I don't see a way to list the images as text, only the large & small thumbnails are available. That is a change.
These 2 things together make it harder to remain organized & avoid complications. It is important to me to display images in the desired order, it is part of the story telling.

They do display properly in the preview within X5, and on Chrome. I have not tried other browsers.

Hello James,
looking at the website with both Chrome and Firefox I get the same view.
Are you referring to the images being unaligned as in the highlighted parts of my screenshot?
If not, could you provide a screenshot of what you are encountering?

You can also use the Gallery object (Gallery type: Thumbnail), then you can view the images with a description when zoomed in.

The first image on my test page has a description when you click on it.

My test page >> http://finde-links.de/123shop-hosteurope/bildergalerie.html

There are 3 gallery objects on my test page.

Thanks for both of your responses.
Daniel, I will have to study your page to look for ideas that would get me out of my rut. Which gallery objects are there? Do you mean 3 instances of the same object, or 3 different objects?

Eric, I might have confused things by uploading a couple of different changes shortly after I wrote the question here. Thus you would have seen a version without the problem. If you did not see the spinning circle indicating not loading when you attempted to view a couple of images on my page (the black & white one you marked was one of those) it could mean 2 things: Maybe you were looking at a later version where I started from scratch and added all the photos again. (But was not satisfied with the sequence of the images, or the complications of getting the images in the right sequence.)
Or maybe it means I should test the page on other computers, still using Firefox, to see if it is a quirk of this desktop. I will do that.
More troubleshooting to do to see if the problem is on my end, or in the Masonry & Justified gallery objects.

Maybe I should say a little more to clarify what I am saying.
First problem was images that did not load on Firefox, and these were ones that I had added to the list in the object while building the page, or ones I had moved to a different position in the list. These are the ones which show the spinning circle and don't load when I have put them on the server, and attempted to view them in Firefox. If the objects allow me to move images or add images, but then they don't display properly, that is a problem.
I am happy with the alignment of the images displayed on the page, in both the Masonry & Justified galleries.
Thanks again.

But it is late here on the West Coast USA, so I will have to make a messed up page and put it on the server tomorrow.

Hello James,
let us know if/when you upload it, depending on how the troubleshooting on your end goes, so that we can check if the issue persists.
I can confirm that on the current version of the website I don't see any failure in loading the images, neither on Chrome nor on Firefox: at most, the very first image that I open takes a couple of instants, then the others are quicker, but I noticed no differences between the black & white images you mentioned and the other ones.
We remain available for furter question or checks!

Eric

With further study, and testing on a different computer in my local network, these are my conclusions:

>> I wanted images to display in my chosen order. That happens with the Justified Gallery object, but not with the Masonry object.
The Masonry object gives greater control of the initial display, allowing control of number of columns which equals control of the size of the individual images, but when opened in the show box (think that is what it is called) the images do not display in the original order, it seems to be based on their aspect ratio & size. That would be OK for some purposes.
When you click on an image in the intial Justified Galley display to bring up the showbox, the images are displayed in the order of the intial display. This is better when a story telling sequence is desired. However there is no control of the size of the thumbnails on the intial page.

>> I don't know what the problem was with the spinning circle when an image would refuse to load. I think I solved it by being obedient and re-loading every image from scratch, rather than moving them around or adding new ones to an exisitng list. I don't like being obedient. The objects allowed me to do it, but the results were poor.

I have left both versions on the page for a while so you can see what the hell I am talking about. Maybe not, since my desire for a storytelling continuity might be too sublte to notice in this case. Eventually I'll remove the Masonry version. It is fine for some pages, but not this one.

Thank you for your assistance. It helped me to move toward a smoother workflow to do the things I want to do with less technical fiddling. Oh, and I wish you a happy holiday in warm places with good food & freinds.

Many of the paid gallery items are primarily aimed at the “aaah” effect, impressing visitors with special effects or great looks.

If it's more about telling a story, then perhaps use the standard galleries or design the pages with text objects that also contain images. However, this requires more creativity than the paid effect galleries.

All you need to do is assign a black background color to the page with the default gallery object, then it will no longer look like a boring default gallery and will look much more elegant.

3 Sitemap - Highlight the page and click Properties at the top, click the Graphics tab and select the page background, check the Enable custom settings box and select a black color.

Great advice from both of you.

I got so involved in wrestling with new & fancy objects I forgot the option of going back to basics. The ability to put images in text objects can be perfect for many purposes. I have ideas for pages where that would work well.
I do tend to get stubborn and determined to achieve exactly the layout I want.

And I do prefer the black background, so I'll take a look at Daniel's suggestion. The white frame on the Masonry & Justified showboxes is not pleasing to my eye. I searched in vain for control of that.
Thanks again.

Note that sometimes I make a video slide show. It offers much more control, such as zooms & pans, verious transitions between photos, positioning within the frame, etc. But it does result in a large file that some viewers might have trouble playing. And it is linear, the viewer doesn't have the option of selecting only the images they want to see.

With the standard "Gallery" object, the images can be linked to "Sound" using the link symbol in order to play audio files (speech, music or noises) in the displayed audio player.

If the "sound" function is used, the other functions such as enlarged image and description are deactivated. On my test page only the 1st image is linked to “sound”.
