TIP: Reused images can be replaced by an “Image Generation Error” file

I have occasionally found that an image used on several pages is no longer exported correctly by WebSite X5. Instead of the intended image, the published website displays a small error graphic containing text such as:

“Image Generation Error – [original filename]”

This problem is difficult to reproduce consistently. It mainly seems to affect images that are reused on multiple pages. Page-specific images appear to be less affected.

I inspected one of the published files directly. The server returned HTTP status 200, so it was not a broken link or missing upload. WebSite X5 had actually generated and uploaded a 250 × 250 pixel WebP file containing the error message instead of the original photograph.

Workarounds that have worked for me:

1. Temporarily select a different image.

2. Run Preview so WebSite X5 processes the replacement.

3. Select the intended image again and run Preview once more.

4. If that does not work, save the original image under a new filename and select that new file.

5. After correcting all affected images, perform a complete upload instead of uploading changed files only.

Changing the filename appears to force WebSite X5 to treat the image as a new source file and generate a fresh WebP version.

It would be useful if Incomedia could investigate the cache or image-generation process for assets reused on multiple pages. An image-generation failure should also not be published as a valid HTTP 200 image without warning the user during Preview or export.
