Why Is The Captcha Failing?  en

I've currently got 2 websites build with v.9, both have guestbooks, and dispite having the CAPTCHA setup correctly and running, when you go in to approve messages, there are quite a lot of spam messages.

Are the CAPTCHA images too simple, or are people running software that recognises which letter has which .gif filename?

Is there anyway to make it more secure?

Hi Darren,

Are you getting nonsensical messages or are they perfect English.......

Or whatever language you use?

Can you give us an example..........

They are normally English, although I've had at least one in Spanish.

Most are advertising something or other, and all including URLs to other website.

All have been deleted so I can't add the contents at the moment, but shall do the next time.

From my experiences over the years. The captcha does a very good job usually. Thing is as you know the internet is a law unto itself. At least you are keeping the spam out of your Blog!! People also don't realise that when they're posting on your blog that the comments have to be approved before you allow them to show......

They also think they're gonna get away with FREE! advertising or even a link for their SEO!! Oh yes they use tricks like this to boost their page ranking too!!

What I suggest is at the end of your Blog posts insert "All comments will be approved before publishing!" Or words to that effect.... I know it says it after they've posted but this is pre-warning them..... Make sense?

Hi Darren,

The only protection that exists in the guestbook is the system capcha.

This prevents bots that can still leave messages.

The suggestionwritten by Cheeky is correct.
