New hard drive does not recognize pictures on old external drive
Автор: Ruth C.I transferred Website X5 files from old ex HD to new ex HD. Now no pictures show up and program sees only where they were than suggest finding them in the new place... ALL of them. I do NOT want to go and tell each photo where the new file location is, and have already tried this and wasted 2 entire days of trying this all to have some error and lose every change made, and still have no pictures show up with all my hard work. How do I get all the pictures to show up at once?
At this link here I did not finish answering it yet to way to make a reply. Text box gone. Sometimes it takes time to figure out what is meant amoung many other things going on at same time.http://answers.websitex5.com/post/34266
There, someone said, "You should have batched processed your files first to C Drive Ruth then put them back on C Drive on the new computer..... Then export to your HDD!!" I don't get this. Why would I want to put files on my C: drive when I want to work off my external drive for the whole purpose of not losing data if my computer fails? Why would I want to transfer 3 more times from 1st external to new C: drive, to new External drive when it's already not recognizing pictures to begin with? I've already exported files to new ex drive.. is that the same as batch processing? I don't get why I have to copy them to the C: drive when I don't want them there and want all updated files on my new ex drive where I will keep adding to them there. Also, I have Win7 and don't see a way to "run as administrator" that I saw in Vista.
At present, I have got all files on my new ex drive without errors, except now no pictures in the actual program. Please tell me an easy way of getting them to show up and program recognizing new file location.
X5 Evolution 8
version: 8.0.16 OS:
Win7 (came from XP where files did work before)
PHP Version 5.2.6

I just checked my old ext hard drive where all files worked before, just to get this one simple announcement up without deleting all present pictures working on the live site, and now pictures there on the old ext HD are not showing up in the program either. Please help.
Hello Ruth,
The issue is that the program is looking for the pictures in the old directory and you have to change them manually once by once. The only solution would be have the same directory structure of the old hard drive so that the program knows where to find them.
In any case when you try the live view press also ctrl while clicking it so to refresh the cache.

This is a major drawback of the program then. However, I went back to it, and all my manual changing was saved unlike before. Did you do something to it on the web side? So since my work showed up, I decided to finish the manual change of picture location one at a miserable time, and now it works. I don't know if Ctrl pressing helped, but I was at least able to update my site with an announcement and have all the pictures there like before so far, for right now. Thank you.

Same thing is happening AGAIN!!! I got the pictures correct by laboriously changing each destination to the new hard drive one at a miserable time, all to do some update to my website and have all the pictures revert back to the old hard drive in a second, where all my pictures are GONE in the internet now!!! How do I get the pictures to revert back to the NEW hard drive WHERE I WANT THEM, STAY THERE, and done in a second???? This is making me mad! I don't have time to screw around with this BS. I just want it to work and easy! Please help. I already cleared my cashe to endure typing in all my passwords into each web form that I do NOT want to have to go through again. Somehow this program is remembering the drive I DO NOT WANT!

Also, something happened (maybe a Windows update?) where my whole new hard drive went back to displaying the default Details view instead of my Large thumbnails view for each & every folder I have to change now (very upsetting to have to re-do this as well) and now that I think about it, the drive letter may have changed all on it's own, thus the Website X5 not recognizing where the files are. It's as if I had to re-program a drive all over again that is taking weeks to do, that took seconds to screw up. What happened, and why did my computer maybe change a drive letter all on it's own, and how do I get Website X5 to recognize ALL files easy in seconds to where I don't have to re-do this work all over again! This is getting miserable. How do I stop it??
Hello Ruth,
WebSite X5 Version 8 searches always the files in the original folder and if the drive letter changes it will not display the pictures anymore.
The only solution would be to change to the new hard disk the drive letter to the old one so that Website X5 can find the images without that you need to change the location of all pictures. You can try with traditional search engines like google to find a way to change the drive letter of the hard disk.
Hope this helps.
