W5v!0 Website functionality with mobile devices browsers?(continued)
I put a *.ogg audio file on the links page of my website and I have now tested this link using an ipod touch, an ipad and the following mobile devices, an iphone and a samsung phone using Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. The music on my website does not work with any of these.
I tried the .ogg file with pc based firefox operating system and both mp3 and ogg files play only using using the firefox browser, so I presume that the .ogg file will play on a mobile device only if viewed using a firefox browser althoughI cannot test this without downloading the browser.
I have tested an apple quicktime audio file on my android mobile and this does work but the user is temporarily taken off the web page and returned to the web page after listening to the music and this is not really the solution I was after, I want visitors to hear the music whilst the web page is being viewed.
I need my audio files to play on ipads, ipods and mobile devices using their factory loaded software without having to download add-ons like the firefox browser. Can you suggest an audio file format that will work?
The apple quicktime audio file format is the same size as a .WAV file and will considerably increase the size of my website but if this is the only solution then it may have to do for now but I do not want .mp3 files and .aif files to be capable of being played simultaneously on the same web page so I think I may have to add sub page duplicate of my main pages specifically for mobile devices to access.
Will the recent software version update I downloaded today solve any of my queries?
Dear Charlotte Welpy,
I have the same query which I am trying to get answered (see the questin and remarks post above). You may need audio software to save your .mp3 files as other types ( I use Nero Waveeditor from the Nero 12 suite but other wave editors should convert your files as well).
If the reply from Incomedia staff can give me a satisfactory answer then your question will be answered properly as well. I have however one question. DId you build your website on V9 or V10 software? Supposedly v10 websites should look OK on mobiles and pads but nothing is said about audio compatability that I can see.
You can get your post percentage by posting full details of your software and opeerating system, typing your question and by putting in tag words to maximise the response you will receive . You also have to make your post public rather than private in order to get 100%.
I hope this wil be of help to you. If you want to see what I have done please check out my website links page by clickig on my name and follwing my web site link.I am about to add an experimental ipad and mobile page please click on each of the links and tell me which colour link works on your ipad- give me an hour from this post to upload my revised web pages.

Hello,
Can you please write the link to the website to see what happens? Have you used the automatic playback option?
Apple devices don't allow automatic playback on their devices.
The ogg format like the mp3 in HTML5 is supported by specific browser and it depends on the browser and the choice made by the company that develops it like on this website listed: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_audio.asp
Many thanks!

Hi
Here is a link to a page on the website
http://www.worldsleepsummit.com/day-four.html
I have not ticked the autoplay box.
Thanks
Charlotte
Hello Charlotte,
Version 9 is using the flash player to load the mp3 files and the iPad/iPhone has no support for the Flash Player Plugin, making it impossible to be played on these devices. We introduced the option of html5 audio support in Version 10. If you want that your mp3 files are also working on mobile devices you can use a custom HTML5 Audio player by adding the code in the HTML&Widget Object in Step 3. These devices supports the HTML5 Audio function.
Please feel free to write back if you need more information.
Hi
I have been on thehttp://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_audio.aspwebsite above and have copied the HTML5 code to my website replacing the sample file given in the example with the exact mp3 and ogg file names with hyphens where there are any spaces.
If in doubt of the exact sound file file name look at the file list when you click to upload your website you may find your sound files in the videos/ folder.
I now have HTML5 audio on all of my web pages and this plays all for operating systems and should work on all tablets and mobile device except for Apple devices (I tried inserting an Apple quicktime file .aif in the HTLM 5 code but as Claudio D above suggested it didn't work). I have tested my audio using an Android mobile phone and I'm sure this will work with an Android tablet as well.
You may need to upgrade to V10 of the Website X5 to do this but I would try it in V9 first.
If you want music on your Ipad then adding your sound file to the web page in .aif format installs the Apple quicktime audio player which takes you briefly off the web page and returns you to it when the music stops playing. Unless the Incomedia staff can come up with another solution for playing Apple files I think that we may be stuck with this solution.
I hope some of this post may be helpful to you.

Does it also play from the preview inside Website X5 v10 or if you launch the site from the preview folder with Opera or Firefox (latest versions)?
Hello Christopher,
Apple devices plays natively also AAC audio file like m4a (other extension for mp4 audio files) files. With this format it can be used the flash fallback if the desktop browser is not supporting this html5 audio format.
Many thanks!
