Please try to check in the windows settings if it's set as default firefox. You can try to add another browser to see if then the settings are changed to open the links of the startpage.

Try to set another browser as default and then try if the link is working. If it works, then switch back to Firefox. If it should not be possible to switch to Firefox, then it depends on the installation of firefox, and it would be better to reinstall it.
