Object reference not set to an instance of an object. How to troubleshoot.

I click the project file its says initializing then a message pops up saying Object reference not set to an instance of an object. How can I troubleshoot this so I can open the project. I have figured out so far there is something missing but I am not sure on what it is please help.

You have a link to a file or a picture in your project but the file or picture is not there anymore.
You have to search for it manually in the previous version.

I have just updated my version 10 to the latest version, I now get the above message whenever I try to open the project that I was working on immediately prior to updating. I have tried restoring a backup, that didnt help, I uninstalled the new version and reinstalled the version I was working on but that gives me a message that the project was created on a later version of X5 can anyone help

My answer is still what you have to do. There is a link to a picture or document or website somewhere. and the object where it points to has been removed. You need to find this (or these links) and correct them.
