it is becoming more and more difficult to upload amendments as the usual outcome is "Unable to connect to service. Please check with your Internet Provider that you have the correct information" and guess what we have!

Hello John,

Are you able to connect to your webhost using exactly the same credentials when using an FTP program such as FileZilla?

I would be surprised if this issue was related to the WebSite X5 program.  It is more likely to be cause by overzealous antivurus or firewall hardware/software, router configuration, proxy servers, issues with your webhosts servers themselves, or a combination of such.

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus and firewall.  If this helps then you may need to create an 'exception' for WebSite X5 for these programs.
