Using the "Enable e-mail address protection" button on the E-mail Address link screen
Автор: Donna C.I believe in version 9 is when I first saw this "Enable e-mail address protection" check box. I do a directory on my websites and have always linked the person's name with his email address. I started using that check box because I thought it was for protection from bots and spamming--An encryption of the email address so they couldn't be mass copied. But I found that when it is checked, no one can click of that persons name to open up a new email message. So I went through all my directories and removed the check from the box. Now people can email the person in the directory but I don't think there is any protection now. Am I missing something here? I want the views to be able to email the person in the directory but I don't want bots out there collecting these address. So what is the solution?
Donna,
I tested this and it works for me like it should be. Try a full upload of your site.
If this does not help let me know if it works in preview (press ctrl after changing when going to preview)
Did you use ctrl-F5 on the website before testing? This can also help.
Can you give me an site where it does not work ?

Hi Andre
I've tried all of your suggestions. The website I am currently working on is: http://snba.net/southern-nevada-churches.html I am told it works for everyone but me, so I am assuming it is my machines.
My default email is web-based (Yahoo) but I also use Outlook. Even if I have Outlook open, it still will not go to it. It just opens a blank browser page in Preview mode. From the website, after updating, it doesn't do anything, not even open a blank browser page.
I am on a Windows 7 machine but it does the same on my Windows 8.1 machine.
Well, I just went back in and changed my default e-mail client to Outlook and it solved all the problems. Which leads me to the issue of people that don't use a free-standing email client. Shouldn't there be a message box open to ask the viewer where to send the email? I've seen that done in other applications, such as Adobe Acrobat.
Thanks for helping.
Hello Donna,
What browser are you using to test it?
If you open it the email links with firefox it allows you to choose if to use yahoo or gmail as webclient or to use the one installed. On chrome it opens only the installed email client or in case you want to use the gmail webclient you need to follow these instructions:

Many thanks!
