Gallery Margins

I need to change the top and bottom margin for my thumbnails in the gallery. At this time, I can only change the left and right margins under "Options" "Thumbnail Outer Margin". How can I change the top and bottom margin also so that my pictures in my gallery don't have some much white space when I choose "None" for the Display mode.
Also, I want to have the "Effects" show on the thumbnails instead of only on the Showbox.
Please help.

It can only be changed the general margin around the image but it cannot be changed the margin only for the top and bottom.
Which effect do you refer? What exact gallery type did you select?

I CAN change the left and right margin on the images in the gallery but it does NOT affect the top and bottom margins. There is too much space between the rows of each picture in the gallery. I am not using any background on the pictures.
Any effect on the gallery, it only shows the effect when I click on the thumbnail and the picture enlarges. The effect does NOT show up in the thumbnail.

There is a fixed margin for the top and bottom section of the rows and this cannot be removed.
What exact gallery type are you using?
Do you mean the effects when you change from one image to the other?
If yes these are only for the big images and cannot be used on the thumbnails.
