How to get rid of unwanted space between rows?  en

I keep having a problem with unwanted and unnecessary space being created between rows. I can't find a way to get rid of this even though I have tried playing around with layout, numbers of rows and so on.  Here is an example www.steamboattrentlock.co.uk where there is a big gap between the upper text and animated gif and the next lot of text which goes the full width.

How do I get rid of this blank space and what causes it?   I've been having this problem for a while!

TIA, Chris D

You have used for the animation an html object, in the lower part of the html object you can set height of the object, this way you can adjust it to your needs. Set the height there lower then the 350 (just test a little) or on automatic.

Hmmm, I thought that was going to be problem solved but I've reduced the HTML object height to 300 (the animated gif is 285 high) but nothing seems to have changed.

Thanks anyway

I thought so too, why do you use a html object anyway? it's a gif so you can use the image object, this is also better for SEO.

If you wish you can create a dublicate of the project, remove all other pages off the duplicate project and then send this exported project to me, I can then have a better look at it.

Chris, have you tried saving your project as an iwzip and then importing this created iwzip as a new project?

Andre, the html object is an animated gif not just a simple gif.  It doesn't animate if it is just an image object and elsewhere in these fora I found out that it has be be an html object to animate.  (Previously I used a .mov file which people could drag around to get an interior view of the pub but now that quicktime is 'deprecated' that is not a current option.  I am open to other [free/cheap] ideas.)  However, you have given me a diagnostic thought - I shall remove the object and see if the excess space disappears. This will confirm or otherwise whether it is this objec that is the problem.

Esac, I have to admit I am slightly confused by this suggestion as I thought this is what happened anyway everytime I saved the project and program and reopened both on another occasion?  Certainly without an iwzip I have been unable to open old projects and have had to build them from scratch! (Very frustrating)

TIA, Chris

Hmmm... I seem to have fixed it by changing the areas of the layout so that there is some unused space between the elements!  This is counter intuitive I have to admit. :-/

For the record, removing the html from the html object had no effect but removing the object in its entirety was a 'fix'.  So, I removed the line of text from below the animated gif (and the associated object) to leave a 'blank' area in the layout.  This seemed to be a fix too (Although I had previously tried removing the text box line from the layout width but this did *not* work. In fact this line was only added in an attempt to get rid of the original problem!).

As the final step, I added the text caption I had removed and placed it in the pre-existing text box on the upper left.

I'm not quite sure why it worked but I have a solution!

(Or at least a 'workaround'?)

Cheers, Chris D

Glad you worked it out,

Objects will be alaign to eachother if you set them on the same row, if you don't want it then make more rows and give 1 object 2 or 3 rows, and the other only one, this way you can control how the rows and objects relate to eachother. They are automaticly (for text) in height adjusted, but also to other rows, so if 2 have the same position and 1 has larger content, the other will have an empty space at the end.

In this way you can set heights on 2 ways, some poeple like to have them same start height of the row, others don't.

Goodluck

Chris, an iwzip will only be created if you export the project. The reason I recommended it is that I and others have found that exporting and immediately importing a project can filter out some odd behaviour which is sometimes experienced when WX5 is upgraded to a new version. In your case it does not appear to be helpful.
