Error in XML document (0,0) - evolution 13

After doing the update this morning my project file won't open, getting a Error in XML document (0,0) - evolution 13 error.
I cannot restore from the automatic updates it keeps bombing out with an error. I read up about creating a new website and copying the contents online. Please can you elaborate more on this as the website is rather large and redoing will be a headache.

Have you tried to restore by using all the backups you found and none is working?
How many backups did you found by selecting the project and clicking the backup button?
