Website X5 v8 maximum number of pages  en

I have a website built using v8 and when I try to add a new page nothing happens.

If I remove an old page I am then able to add another page.

I suspect that I have reached a page number limit.

Is there a maximum number of pages that a v8 site can have?

I currently have approximately 1100 pages and can only add more if I first delete an existing one.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello.I definitely don’t remember the limit on the number of pages in the 8th version, but it seemed to be 1000.

"Any assistance would be appreciated." - Delete unnecessary pages or update the program to the latest version.

Art, WX5 V8 is no longer supported by Incomedia, on one of the posts here I read that the current versions of WX5 will support up to 10,000 pages (although in my opinion no one in their right mind should have this many pages in a single project because maintenance, backups and uploads would consume hours).

Please also be fore-warned that there is no direct upgrade path from v8 to v2019. Since you own v9 you could convert the v8 to v9 (this is not as straight forward as one may wish due to a change in the underlying structures at this time). Upgrade from v9 to v10 is quite easy (simply go to step 5 export and then import the newly created iwzip file into v10). However, you will need assistance to upgrade from v10 to v11 or later for subsequent import into v2019 because v2019 can only import from v11 or later.

Upgrading an 1100 page project could be quite a daunting excercise I'm sorry.

I never upgraded beyond v8 in the first place due to the fact that the export/import in to a newer version would reqiure modifying every page after the import.

If I delete pages from v8 after I upload them to our hosting site, is there anyway to add them back into v8 in the future if I need to edit or modify them?

I guess what I am asking is if there is any workaround to the page limit if forced to keep this site on v8, or is there a way to create future pages on a newer version and add them to the hosted site I created in v8?

Thanks for any assistance!

Art, if you could upgrade v8 to v9 or v10 and provide the iwzip one of us would be pleased to attempt upgrade through v11 or greater to a current version. The only things that should go missing are features and techniques no longer supported by today's web standards (eg if you are using flash slide shows they may not upgrade, but equally a significant number of users can no longer play them).

I strongly recommend moving your v8 project up to v10 in any case just so advise offered here may be more relevant - very few of us still have v8 and I for one do not remember how functionality differed back then.

If you provide a link to your site we could make a better guess, but why not duplicate the site and so create a second project (perhaps make 2 duplicates and mark one as archive for emergency), delete half the content in one and the other half in the other. Now add levels to replace the missing pages in each separate project and using properties for the level, link to the other site (one which could simply be in a sub domain folder).

Now you can have close to 2000 pages. The only disadvantage to this technique is that the internal search function won't function across 2 sites.

If you delete a page it is gone, if you were using a later version of WX5 you could create an iwzip before deletion, name it appropriately and you could always go back to that version, potentially even open 2 copies of WX5 simultaneously and copy pages(?)/content between projects.

To answer your last question, you cannot copy pages from any later version back into earlier versions.
