Licence keys and wx5 versions
Autor: Adrian WoodI am confused about my licence keys. I have version 18 and I can see that the licence expired 05/23/19 but when you look I find that all the versions I have had since version 8 many years ago, all end on the same date and were all purchased on the same date. What is going on here? I have been having a lot of trouble with my version 18 with freezing half way through jobs. I never know when this will happen and I have to make a complete restart through the Task manager to clear the software and to start again; knowing that any moment it might have to be restarted again. I have no other software open at the time except perhaps my browser. So I was going to reload the software as I have done about ten times now in the hope that I might get more than five minutes work done when I noticed the anomoly of the dates. If I upgrade to the latest version, will I have to pay the £60 or is there an upgrade discount for long time users. I am getting to the point where I wonder if this is worth the money because I simply do not know if the new version will be reliable. If I thought that the version I have was reliable then I would carry on because from what I can see there is not much in the latest version I need. I have had every version thus far since I met Frederico in London in the late 90s I think it was and purchased the version 8; about then anyway and he asked me to give a talk about using the software in schools. At the time I was a teacher trainer and so I used WX5 in schools quite a lot. All this is to say that I do not want to leave the fold as it were but I do need a reliable software and at the moment I dont have one.
Thank you for your help.
Adrian
Hello Adrian,
Sorry but i removed your picture with your licences.
It is not wise to show all you licences here in -a public- helpdesk.
I would advice you to set this post to private, you can do so in the first post with the settings icon.
After setting it to private only Incomedia can read your post and only then it is safe to share this kind of info.
Best Regards,
. . . possibly you did not RENEW your licence since 2019. As for getting updates/upgrades you have to own a valid licence (has to be renewed every year; you can check within your PROFILE --> LICENCES). All the versions of x5 are for lifetime BUT older licences are "out of service" by Incomedia.
Dear Adrian,
thank you for getting in touch.
Please consider that licences are active for one year since the activation date then, if not renewed, they expire. Still, please don't worry: if a licence isn't active it simply means that it isn't possible to get the updates as it was before, but the program itself stays active and normally usable.
You mentioned a problem concerting the freezing of the software, which of course isn't due to your licence status: could you please provide me with more information about this issue? I would be happy to help you find a solution.
Thanks! Kind regards.

Thank you for your reply re the freezing.
I have not yet found a pattern so it is hard to say that the problem occurs when I do anything in particular except perhaps when I try to open a text box or an image box. I was working on a jessor slider and it froze yesterday.
I have re-installed the software three times now and there seems to be no change in the overall reliability which made me think that the problem might be my end so I made sure to close all other software open and rebooted my pc before I began - no noticeable difference.

Thank you for your advice and thank you for taking down the image of the keys although I am not sure how others could benefit from the information.
Although my software is still usable should I renew the licence for it if the version is now out of date? I am helping someone manage a new website I have made for them on their version which they have just purchased. I am hoping that my version is compatible. Can you tell me if it is please.
Thank you also to PCSSA for your comments.

Re Licence Key
How do I renew my licence? Can I renew the licence for my current version or do I have to buy the newest version?
You can buy a licence for 1 year (Update Protection), in that case all upgrades and new versions will be available to you with no extra charge during this year.
After tthe year the latest version update will continue to wotk but you are not allowed to update this version anymore.
See pulldown next to your name and offers for you.

Is the version out of date?
Well that depends on how you look at it, it will stay functional for a long time i gues, but you never know what will be developed in the future and how fast that goes, but for now it's no problem.
I personaly would set out of date at or from v12 maybe v13.
And regarding your licences you need to be carefull always, it is very handy to people that have bad intensions. And in the end you could get into trouble for this.
That's why this forum has the private option build in. There it is save to post these. But still do it only on request from Incomedia, normally they can review your licences and it is not needed to share them.
Hello Adrian
About your issue with the software freezing. Do you experience this with a single project or more than one? Let's say, if you start a new one, does the same happen?
Are you able to verify this on more than one computer if you find out that the issue is with a specific project?
Could it be that the project is particularly big or has many blank cells in its pages?
keep me posted here
Thank you

Hello Stefano
Thank you for asking. I hope you may remember me from BETT London when I gave a demonstration for you to teachers about using the software in schools. I have always been a great fan of Websitex5. Best wishes to you.
Re the Freezing
I have two projects. They are quite small with no blank pages. Most of the content is moved online through ftp and so many of the pages are linked to server files. This has always worked well and saves space on the project so that I can upload quickly.
The freezing problem is occuring on the newest project. I have only the one computer so I do not know if the problem is software or computer. I have reloaded the programme three times now. The problem is that the software freezes very unexpectedly and takes a reboot to restart which means that unless I am continually saving work, I will loose files and progress. I thought that there might be an automatic saving function like I have in other software where I can set the open project to save every five minutes.
I see you have a sale on at the moment so I will buy the next version and see if that helps.
Thank you again and best wishes also to Frederico
Adrian
Hello Adrian
I understand. Should you want to have me check this project in particular, let me know here. I would be more than willing to do so for you
In the meantime, it could be helpful to try and test a new project just for a while, see if the same happens there
Keep me posted here if there's anything else I can do for you
Thank you
Stefano
Adrian, I know you are in the best hands with Elisa and Stefano, but is it possible it is either your internet connection (perhaps slow or being interfered with by 3rd party antivirus?)
Or if you have a mechanical HD perhaps run chkdsk C: /r from an administrator DOS prompt. I have a primary SSD and recently ran ScanDisk from properties/tools and dramatically improved reliability for a project.
Just a thought , , ,
