Hi
Can someone explain how manual registration works? I have a members site setup to use automatic registration but this leaves me with a user who can just signup and log in.
I need to authorise the member before they get access so my thinking is to set it up as manual registration but I dont understand how this would work.
does the page have a signup area for new members to apply?
Do I get an email alerting me to a new application?
How do I valadate them?
thanks,
william

Hello William,
You can find a general overview of the manual registration process here:
How to manually define users and groups with access to Locked Pages
You can create the 'signup area for new members to apply' by following these instructions:
How to set up the login page
You won't get an email notification of registration, but neither do you have to validate the manually registered users, as that feature is exclusive to Automatic Registration.
If you want to control who has access whilst using the Manual Registration method then you can use the method outlined in the guide above...
If you want to, you can also set the button for the registration under the login form, so Users who have not registered yet can contact you to ask for their login credentials. In order to do this, you need to:
In this way a user will not be able to access your site until you have emailed their login credentials to them. In other words, you (and not the user) decide what the login credentials are going to be.
You can also use the online control panel and/or WebSite X5 Manager app to keep tabs on who can access your members' area.
If you have any further questions, just let us know.
Kind regards,
Paul

Thanks Paul,
So my understanding of that is if I wish to have manual registration I have to create a page called for example registration. On this page I have to have a contact form that they fill in with their details and it sends them to me via email. I then record the details manually into access management then upload to the web before they can have access is that correct?
To be clear if using manual reg it does not give me a registration page the same as automatic registration, I have to create that page myself?
This way I have total control over who gets access is that correct?
thanks
William
Yes, you have to create the registration page, but not the login page (which is automatically generated by WebSite X5).
When a user tries to access a locked page on your site they will see the login page:
To begin with your users will of course have no login credentials, so the only way they can proceed is to click on the button marked 'Register'.
This will take them to a registration page of your choice. You have full control over how this page will appear on your website. This is the page that you can embed your Contact Form in, to request name and email address details from each user. You tell WebSite X5 which page to use by way of the Registration Page field under Manual Registration settings:
Click on the button highlighed in red above. In this example I've created a page in the WebSite X5 sitemap called 'register'.
And yes, once you have received the data from your users via the Contact Form, then you can create login credentials manually for each user in Step 1 Settings > Access Management > Users
You retain full control over who can or cannot log in. As an added bonus when using Manual Registration, you can also direct each user to a unique/different page once they have logged in... although this is optional.
