Why is Google's SEO checker telling me my robots.txt is not set up when it is (as far as I can tell) ?

www.dmacd.co.uk/wl

mahh, I see that the file is obviously a fake from Google, a wrong reading, check directly on search console

Google isn't the only one, other checkers are saying the same thing.

I saw that your site does not have an SSL certificate (https), this could also be a problem, activate it on your hosting

Is it possible that the domain is not called www.dmacd.co.uk/wl but www.dmacd.co.uk? In this case, the robots.txt must be stored one level higher in the server's directory tree.

Yes, this site is in a subfolder (WL) so that my customer can view its progress while it's being constructed. It will be transferred to his domain when it's completed.

I just uploaded a robots.txt file to the root and the SEO checker is no longer complaining.
