Regarding Evolution 10

Can you guarantee that the transition from Evolution 9 to Evolution 10 will not be anything like as problematic as the transition from Evolution 8 to Evolution 9?
The latter caused untold grief to many WebsiteX5 users at that time and, as you know, many users gave up all together and moved to other less cumbersome software.
As a customer with a very large website, I want to see an easy transition to Evolution 10 or it just isn't worth the weeks of pure hell that I had in the last transition being repeated yet again.
So, having seen your description of Evolution 10, I need to be reassured.
Thank you,
Nigel Winder

Nigel,
You can never be sure, everybody uses website x5 differently. I tested a lot of projects and had no problems. Why not test yourself the beta version? Then you can be sure and report immediately problems. Now is the time to test this and you can do it with your own project !

I really need to know if the upgrading to Evolution 10 will make sure that personal files and images used in Evolution 9 will still retain the same directory structure after upgrading.
Will the projects be saved in exactly the same way as they are now?
Will the upgrade be a smooth process in terms of updating the current project for both editing and uploading?
I don't want to beta test as I cannot replicate a large site without using my current projects which are too complex to meddle with and creating too many muddling sources on my hard drive.
I can cope with small bugs and will report any if found on the completed software.
I need an Incomedia rep to address my query but I am grateful for your comments Andre.
Nigel,
What is your website address? I would like to check it out and see if we might also have the same problems as you mentioned?
Thank you, Zeeba

Hi Zeeba...
http://www.hampsteadheath.net
I WAS advised to split the site into several smaller projects...which is fine...but for now I am not needing to do this and I won't want to if I eventually upgrade.
Currently, I cannot export the zipped project as it is far too big (about 2 gigs) and bashes all my RAM but I am ok with this as I save all the working directory/file structures in 4 different places for safety.
Nigel, Incomedia will reply if you want them too. (i just repeated this for you and inco)
Just for the record, in x10 you will import your project from v9 and your original project will not be changed. You end up with your v9 project like it has always been. And a copy in v10 which is in an other directory.
You can play and test in v10 remove it. Whatever. your v9 project will not be harmed.
if you want to make sure you can make a backup it's a lot i know but then you can be sure v10 is worth the buy and you know / test / see the improvements.

Ah thanks Andre...
That was what I was worried about.
To go from version 8 to version 9 it took me weeks to resort the folders I use for storage. (I have many many categories)
In fact...I STILL found a minor forgotten slide show with broken links only last week...lol.
So...as you can see...I didn't want to go through that again!
I assume you are saying that, once the project is imported from version 9 to version 10, the links to personal files remain the same as those links in the version 9 project and are not all banged together in a separate directory?
Hello Nigel,
The new Version, differently form the past, creates a project internal library of all images that are added to avoid that if the original image is moved or deleted from the computer, this one will not more be visible on the project. In this way all projects will have their library of added content and nothing will get lost. You can also export these images stored in the internal library back in the computer.
If you require any further information, please feel free to write back.

Hi Claudio...
I need to fully understand what you are saying.
So...if I create a project, using images from my own personal folders, once the project is saved these images are no longer linked to those in my personal folder but become linked to a new copied image in a Website5 folder>?
If this is true then that would stop files being lost by accidental deletion BUT are these new images all in ONE folder created by Website5?
If this is so then what is the difference between what happened when we upgraded from Evolution8 to Evolution9 (when all the linked files were put into the Project) and the new process in Evolution10?
I have thousands of image files and I don't want them all in one single folder. It would be unmanageable!???!
When you say "You can also export these images stored in the internal library back in the computer" how do you mean?
Please explain the processes in more detail and ALSO will we be able to import current Evolution9 projects into Evolution10?
Thanks.
I would like to know if evolution 10 has more payment options. I do not like to use only paypal on my website
Hello Nigel,
Yes the images will be moved in a folder of the project so that they will no more be lost and if you need them you can export them from project to your computer again.
When you upgrade to Version 10, you have always the original project in case of need, the IWZIP will contain all images and Version 10 will organize them now internally and not in a folder of your choice and all new images will be sotred in the project folder so that they will be always in the project also if you moove them or delete them accidentally.
You don't need to manage them, the program will do it for you and so it will not happen that you get the image generation error.
To export them back you can click onthe filename in the program and with the rightclick menu you will have the option to export it from the project, in case you need it also outside the program.
The conversion of the project will not affect the project because it will create a copy and then import it and once done you will have the project in Version 10 and the export of Version 9 in case you need it as backup copy which can be opened in Version 9 and 10.
@Abel
You can use your custom payment option also in Version 9. You need to add the custom payment code you want to use or the one provided from your bank in Step 4 - Shopping Cart - Payment Tab.
Many thanks!

Claudio...
I am unable to create any IWZIP files as my project file is over 2 gigabytes and I am not wanting to split my project into smaller units.
I don't suppose the massive CPU usage has been addressed has it?
I suppose that I can still maintain my own personal directory structures containing my original files and it will not matter if I move these files around as, once grabbed by the project, it won't matter where they are in my personal directories? Is that correct? (This was a pain sometimes as when I reorganized files I had to make sure that I altered the project links, etc.)
I suppose I will go with this, although my project library file will indeed be massive!
Hello Nigel,
Since it's a new Version you will need to import the project so that it can be converted to be used and for this procedure it will be necessary to use the IWZIP file because the import function converts the functions and the code from the old Version to the new one.
The CPU usage has been improved with the dynamic loading to use less memory.
Also the preview has been speeded up because now it's using chromium as Preview Browser and the preview is run inside a virtual webserver to simulate how it will be once it's exported.
If you import the project every file you add will be stored in the project libary and you can move around or delete the original files without affecting the project and avoiding the missing files or the "image generation error" issue.
If you require any further information, please feel free to write back.

Hi Claudio...
Thank you.
This poses a dreadful problem!
I cannot export my project9 file into an IWZIP file within Evolution 9; the project file is too big and I run out of memory!
SO...what happens if I attempt to import the project 9 file into Evolution10? Won't that work? (i.e. project.iwprj)
If not, why not?
From Evolution8 to Evolution9, we only had to import the project8 file and NOT the IWZIP!
Creating the IWZIP in Evolution10 may be easier, as you say, but how do I get to this point?
Thanks,
Nigel
Hello Nigel,
If you add the folder containing the iwprj it will not work because during the creation if the IWZIP the project gets modfied to allow it to be imported on the new computer with all the associated files by modifying the xml file. Since we are releasing updates for Version 9 to improve the transition to Version 10 this aspect could be improved to allow an easier creation of the IWZIP file ready to be used in Version 10.
Many thanks!

Oh well done...that's great!
An idea....would I be able to split my Version 9 project file into two parts, create two IWZIP files and then open two instances of Version 10 and copy and paste the pages back together again from the two separate IWZIP files?
(CLAUDIO...Could you look at my query on published page corruption , please?)
Hello Nigel,
thank you for your suggestion. Our developers are working to see how to simplify the transition.
Many thanks!

Ok...I expect there will be plenty of details written pre-new upgrade to enable users to make up their minds whether it is worth having or not.
