Sign up for a free Google Webmaster Tools account, and follow the online instructions to add your URL to Google's index.

Some things which help achive high rankings:

• Unique, well-written content
• Lack of duplicated content
• Fast loading sites (keep page/image sizes down, use good servers)
• Submitting a sitemap to Google
• Checking to ensure you have no dead links, server errors, etc.
• Reciprocal links from existing websites with good reputations
• Linking to social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.
• Adding ALT-tags to all of your images
