Add a discount image to an individual product cart item

I have tried to insert a 'save' image to individual items in a product list by the following route.
Product List Object, Settings, Ribbon Type, Settings, Image File
The 'save' image I am trying to add shows in the preview box but it does not save as each time I return to the settings page the image I added earlier has gone and the settings have returned to how they were before I added the 'save' discount image. Consequently I cannot get these images to appear in product for sale items.

in the product settings did you set a discount in "set a discount for the product" like fixed or percentage discount? if not you need to do it in order for ribbon to work correctly.
