Is there any way to trick X5 into using US date formats?  en

Long ago I posted a suggestion to correct the date format for United States users, but it seems that this is not a high priority so I would like to know if anyone has figured out how to trick the system into swapping the month/day so that it appears correct in the blog.

13/8/2015 does not make sense to US visitors which is all/most of my target audience and this just doesn't look right to me.

I know that I can export the project and then manually fix this, but I have to do this every time I make a change.  I already tried editing the x5engine.php file, but X5 ignores this.

Hello again Gabe,

You don't have to export and then manually edit afterwards.

You can use the Language Content Management screen to edit the variable 'date_format' to your liking.  This screen is located at Step 1 General Settings (please see the screenshot attached)  -  you will need to click on the icon circled in the screenshot to access the screen.

Once you have done this and reuploaded to the server then the date will appear online in the format you have specified.

Best regards,

Paul

Paul,

Thanks for the rapid response, however, I have already tried that, but it has no effect on the blog.  Please see my post from February where I documented this with hopes that it would be fixed back since version 11:

Any other ideas?

Gabe

Many thanks for the link to your previous thread which I found very useful and interesting, Gabe.

I agree completely that incorrectly formatted dates are confusing to US web users.  It would be great if we could resolve this issue.

I have not had time so far to make any tests of my own in that respect, but would like to do so when I get a moment.

I will follow this thread and hope to return with input, or to hear what you, others and Incomedia have to add.

Thanks again for bringing this matter up.

Paul

Just letting you know that I had a chance to look into this in detail today, Gabe, and I now have a working fix.  I've tested it extensively and have no issues displaying dates consistently in US format in both blog posts and comments.

I'm conscious of the fact that the WebSite X5 source code is copyright of Incomedia and I want to respect that.  So I can't post the file as an attachment on this public forum, at least not without prior permission.

However, if you forward your IP address then I will post a link where you will be able to download for your own personal use, with instructions on how to implement, etc.

Thank you...

The patch is available here:

http://bit.ly/1iVKtP7

Anyone wishing to download it must have a valid version 12 licence.

Once installed posting dates will be displayed on your blog in US format, as per the screenshot attached.

Please understand that this is not an official patch from Incomedia, so please do not expect them to provide support for customised code.  I am here to help if I can should you run into any issues.

The link's fine Gabe...  you just need to let me know your IP address so I can let you in the front door    -  access is restricted intentionally so I can vet v12 licence details before permitting download.

If you don't know your IP address just use this link to find out:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+is+my+ip+address

Post the address here and then wait for me to respond before downloading.  It's late here in the UK but if I don't catch your message tonight then I'll check first thing in the morning.

I'll remove your IP address from this thread afterwards for your own privacy.
