No it's not normal, you should get some icons and a startscreen.

Try to reload (ctrl-F5) maybe firewall interferes? Can you test also another browser?

Else to a complete upload and try above things again.

From your replies I understand that I need to activate the database. I had defined a database, but hadn't activated it in the e-commerce section. I have now. See the screenshot below, at least the e-commecre section is shown in the dashboard. Is this what I should expect, or are still items missing? Why do I get those errors in the upper half of the screen?

Hello John,

The message you receive on the uppoer section is only a warning message (which makes the website still work correctly) and not an error message which depends on trhe server settings for the date and time function. Do you use a windows or linux server?

Try please also to ask the hosting if the settings for the strtotime and date of PHP are configured correctly.
