Hi
After a major hard drive crash, I cannot get X5 t see the relevant iwprj2 files.
I do have all the relevant files in the correct location. Also under Preferences, it shows this location - i.e.
C:\Users\Frank\Documents\Incomedia\WebsiteX5v14 - Evolution\Frank Johns\
and in that folder is the file project.iwprj2
When I click start, nothing is shown in the Existing Project panel
Also, if I click on the file and say 'Open with' X5, X5 itself opens but does not show the project.
Please help
Frank

Frank, had you uploaded your site prior to the crash? If so, check the backup directory inside the project folder using Windows File Explorer.
Please let us know if backups exist and if you need assistance restoring one of them.

Yes I have found files in the backup folder for each of the websites. One of the files, for example, is
uploaded_20171130142704.iwprj2
But I am unsure of how to open these files, I look forward to hearing the method.
Thanks
Frank, simply copy the backup up to the project directory and rename as project.iwprj2
Good luck!

Hi
Unfortunately that did not work. In the target directory is the file: project.iwprj2 but X5 does still not see it. See attached screen grab.
I have 3 ither websites and I have now tried the same result on each.
i also can access all the files on my earlier hard drive and tried copying over the project.iwprj2 files from there but no good there either.
could a reinstallation of X5 be worth doing?
Frank. the screen grab "appears " correct. Are you sure WX5 is looking at the correct folder?
Start WX5, click on preferences and check the path reads "documents/incomedia/Website X5v14-Evolution/"

Hi
Yes - see attached pics. I put 2 so you could see the whole file name.

Here is the other one

Hi
I have just now uninstalled WX5 and did a full clean of my system using CC Cleaner. Then reinstalled WX5.
Still have the same problem ;-((

By the way. I have my old C: drive (now called J:)mounted on a caddy and can see it and all its files. I have just set WX5 Preferences to the equivalent directory in that drive, but it still doesn't see any of the project.iwprj2 files.
A real mystery to me. I am beginning to think I might have to start all 4 websites from scratch. If that is the case I might have to junk WX5 and look for something more reliable - but don't want to.
Frank, I am at a loss to explain why WX5 cannot see project.iwprj2
In other (many) posts about odd behaviour of WX5, and on the assumption you have loaded a new copy of Windows onto a replacement HD, you may wish to try the following (as posted by Claudio). It is possible that Microsoft has once again failed us:-
Please try to repair the .NET Frameworks by following these steps:
Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off
Clear the check box for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and then click on OK. Clear also the check box for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 (or 4.7) and then click on OK.
After Windows disables the feature you will need to go back to re-enable Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and 4.6 (or 4.7) and then click ok.
If this does not work please advise and we shall call on Incomedia to assist. I do not believe the problem is WX5 on this occasion.

Hi
I did that and also restarted the PC. Unfortunately it did not do the trick.
Let us hope Incomedia can help.
Thanks for your efforts.
I have raised the SOS flag - sadly they will not be on deck until Monday :-(

OK understood. Thanks again

Hi
I have cracked it ;-))
Under preferences it was:
C:\Users\Frank\Documents\Incomedia\WebsiteX5v14 - Evolution\Frank Johns\
However, I changed this to:
C:\Users\Frank\Documents\Incomedia\WebsiteX5v14 - Evolution\
and X5 now see all four websites and opens them OK
Incomedia can now add this to the various quirks related to windows.
Thanks and best wishes for Christmas and New Year
Frank
Congrats on getting it working - although sounds very similar to my 3rd post :-)
I will lower the SOS flag.
