Unable to load pdf file from locale computer in my website x5 version 12  en

I have version 12 of websiteX5 professional. I made one web site earlier. When i made the website, i have option to choose pdf file from internet or from my locale computer when I use PDF widget.

recently, when i am modifying my web site, I could not locate option choose file from locale computer. There are only two options, type and internet file. Earlier in the same version, i used to have possibility to choose between two option to link my PDF files.

Why this option diappeared? Is it because my system upgraded from window 7 to window 10? What can i do to return to my fully functional professional version?

The old version of the pdf file viewer widget had this option.

The new version of the widget not anymore. (it did not work very good and made a big impact on upload time)

You can upload it once and then select it, (set it in an seperate folder on your webserver.)

way 1:

You can  do this in step5. make connection to your webserver, then use button on top, create folder and make a folder name it pdf or anything else but i will use pdf as example.

then go to that folder and use upload button. and upload let's say new.pdf file.

then you can set the in the pdf widget this adres: yourwebsite.com/pdf/new.pdf.

Then you have the same, it is more work but it works better and faster.

way2:

You could beside a manual upload like above do the same in x5 itself:, goto step4, seo and code -> expert tab, then use files linked to html code field, press add

create folder named pdf, select your new.pdf file, then upload your websiet in step 5, the name of the file for upload in the pdf widget stay's the same  (adres for pdf widget: yourwebsite.com/pdf/new.pdf.)

Nothing is clear in your answer. First i have to create the web site before uploading.

In you way 1, there is no way to upload files before uploading web site.

When i am creating web site, i have no folder in my web server.

If i implement your suggestion as per way 1, I need to upload my incomplete web site.

Is there a way to make a connection without uploading my site? See attached screen shot. Where is the button to make connection with my host?

Regarding way 2, please clerify the folowing,

If I click add button, what I see is shown in attached screen shot 2. it is not possible to create a folder. A file with path of my computer folder is saved.

Please give me batter instruction.

Hello Yask

What Andre tells you is, that you should upload the pdf-file to the internet.

You don't have to upload your site.

You can upload the file via FTP. You can use a program like FileZilla or you can use the built-in ftp function in X5.

Once the file is uploaded you can refer to the pdf-file by its URL ( the filename of the PDF-file that it now has on the internet )

Do you know how to upload a file via ftp?

Do you know how to create a folder?

If not - then tell what is your problem, and I am sure someone will help you.

sorry I went too fast, it's difficult to know if a user has experience with functions or not, anyway,

You need to upload the pdf file, then it is on internet, your webserver.

After that you can select it in the pdf widget as a file from internet, then upload project.

url file name would be: yourwebsite.com/pdf/new.pdf, you can test this if upload succeeded by typing it in in your browser url select field.

way2 :

rename files to pdf ( if you follow my example)  above select the pdf.

this creates a folder pdf in your  root of the webserver with the pdf ypu selected in it ( select this from your pc as linked file)

Then it gets uploaded.

Then select in the pdf widget. upload again.

***

if it still does not help let me know i will make a step by step tutoriol

I could upload my pdf to my host. In my host I have different folders, one is "public_ftp/incoming/docs" and the other is "public_html", where should I store my .pdf files? After sharing it on my host what link I need to give? Like "/home/yaskshelat/public_html/PDF_COLLECTION/name.pdf"

Any suggesting on HTML  code, that I can inser to my web page that opens my pdf file?

You can create a folder yourself, like in the tutorial (red circle) you can name it anything you want.

place it in the root, where your website is uploaded, i guess on your webserver this is public_ftp

create a folder with any name you like, docs is fine.

the location will then behttp(s)://yaskshelat/docs/thenameofthepdf.pdf  (I am not sure if you have https or http)

Let know if it still does not work, then provide your normal webadres of your website and i can make a clearer example.
