Privacy error and Certificate error when using Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers  en

Dear Technical Support,

I created my website using Website X5 and uploaded to the server.  Everything runs well except that I got some "privacy error" and "certificate error" messages when using Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers and manually input the website name (www.minifigrise.com) in the address bar.  Please see attached screen shots for details.  I am not sure if they are the same type of problems in my webpages, and appreciate if any advice from you to help me resolve these error messages.

Thank you,

James

James, when your browser connects to a website it can either use the HTTP (insecure) or HTTPS (secure). Any page providing an HTTP connection will cause the “Not Secure” warning. This is merely a warning, it does not mean that there is any issue with your site.

Please contact your host, many provide a free security certificate, if so they can either modify the .htaccess file for you or provide the details so you can make the change.

If they do not provide this then they can advise who they recommend.

Hello! what Esahc wrote is not correct for this one, since the error you are receiving is way more aggresive than the regular "this site is not secure".

You're having a problem of redirect, it seems that your site is configured to go to an https:// address but the certificate is not present, you will have to check the .htaccess file in the server and/or check if the SSL has been correctly installed (ask to you hosting provider about AUTO SSL or LET'S ENCRYPT).

Hello. If you already have an SSL certificate, then I also recommend checking the site address.

Hello James,

To avoid any confusion and misunderstanding...

Gordon (Esahc) is correct.

There is no https redirect currently in operation for your site: that is not the issue here.  Both versions of your site are available to any web visitor:

http://minifigrise.com

https://minifigrise.com

You do actually have an SSL certificate already installed on your server.

The reason for the warning messages in the browsers is that the installed certificate is out of date.  It expired on 1st November 2018.

Your webhost should be able to help you install a new SSL certificate, quite possibly for free too, like Gordon suggested.

Alternatively you can simply delete the old certificate from your server, whereupon the warning messages will go away.

It's best practice to use secure (SSL) connections to your site if at all possible, for many reasons.

Kind regards,

Paul

I checked the "ssl" folder in my website via ftp, and saw three empty folders and two files, but not any .htaccess file can be found.  Where should I look to delele the old certificate Paul mentioned?

The screen shots of my website folder trees are attached. Thank you!

You do this through cPanel (or your webhost's similar control panel)... your webhost will be able to guide you.

Here are some typical instructions:

And here is some more specific advice to anyone seeking to remove SSL from a Godaddy account (which I think you have?):
