Pictures with link, comment and INSERT FUNCTION - is it possible?  en

Hello,

I want to have a page that displays the pictures of our authors (I publish eBooks) in alphabetical order. I want the images to have a title and for the title to link to the author's page on our site. That's all doable using image and text objects (6 across the page seems to work nicely) the problem comes when we take on a new author and they have to be fitted into the existing page - I will either have to move LOTS of objects around, or break the neat display of images by inserting a row with less than 6 images...

I have looked at the various Gallery options but none of them seem to allow what I want - am I missing something, or is there another way, or will I just have to design the page differently???

Many thanks for any help or ideas.

All the best,

Robert.

Robert, rather than use a gallery object, why not simply break your page up into individual cells (add rows and columns) and add an image object into each cell. If you do this (yes it might be extra work) you will have more control over each object and the layout for various resolutions (pro offers absolute control over breakpoints and order but you are using evo).

This is what you have initially done, but objects can be dragged and dropped and so re-arranged quite easily when there is a new author or an author must be removed. Perhaps a move to pro is justified because it can manage resolution changes even better than your preferred example?

Hello Esahc,

I'm confused - you say that objects can be dragged and dropped - I have not been able to do that, I have to use cut and paste to move objects?

If I can drag & drop then I'd be much more willing to stay with the cell by cell system that I am currently using.

Thanks.

Robert.

Hello again Esahc,

Just went back to the program and tried dragging - AH I SEE - I was dragging just inside the object's frame and that (for some odd reason) doesn't work - you have to drag the center mini-icon in order to move the object - wish I had realised that before, would have saved meyself a lot of work these past few weeks :)

Will now revisit the whole issue and see if I can figure out a way to set things up so that future changes are easier to do.

Thanks.

Robert.

Hello,

I have been thinking - one way, I can work around the problem is to place the authors in random positions rather than by surname order. I will see what that looks like - I have a total of about 50 authors so not quite sure what the end result will look like?

Probably, the desktop view will be OK but smartphone view may need a different approach - is there a way to simply have different pages for desktop & smartphone?

Thanks.

Hello Robert

You should use a tool that is suitable for this.

Take a look at this example : https://www.westmeltonbowlingclub.com/files/Officers.php

It is made by the author of the LuxCal calendar.

The images is clickable and the text is viewed in an expanded version when hovered.

The persons can be grouped. Each person is a number of lines in a textfile - very esay to insert new persons, delete or move persons - just use cut-and-paste. The view is automatically arranged according to the textfile.

In the textfile is also specified the link you want for the image.

The page can be shown in an iframe, or you can have a link to the page in your menu.

If you are interested I can supply you with the source.

Eventually contact via this page : http://calendarforum.dk/contact.html

Maybe you could use the blog for this instead?

Here you can also have images and links and you can arrange posts.

Hi John,

Thanks, that's a couple of good ideas, I'll look at both of them later today - right now I am going to do something that I have been putting off for over a month - TIDYING MY DESK - it is officially a disaster zone and goodness only knows what forgotten tasks are going to come to light.

All the best,

Robert.
