Seo best practice: H1 versus Page Title  en

I've been ignoring page titles (I set them to not visible) and instead using the H1 heading as the page titles... But now I'm wondering, maybe this is a mistake. Which is better; to use H1 or Page Title for SEO?

I ask because if you look under 'settings' -> 'website optimization seo' ->'html tag' you can set it so that H1 is treated as the Page Title?

I guess what that means is that the underlying html code will tag the 'H1 heading' on the page as the 'Page Title'... and ignore the actual page title?

Hello.I recommend using a meta title and H1. Better to be different.

The meta title needs to be set here:

I recommend setting the H1 tag on the page. Like this:

From the documentation:

Automatic heading tag management: this option defines how <h1> and <h2> heading tags are to be handled when the website's page code is created. You can choose from:

  • None: none of the parameters set for the Pages will be automatically applied and the heading tags <h1> and <h6> can be managed manually.
  • H1 for page title: if the name assigned to the Page during the Map creation step or the Page Title used in the Page Properties window is made visible (see Text Style), it will be used as the value of the <h1> tag.
  • H1 for Website Heading and H2 for Page title: the value of <h1> tag will be the name of the Page, or if otherwise specified, the Page Title used in the Page Properties window, followed by a dash, then the Title of the site (<h1> = "Page Title - Site Title"). The <h1> tag is inserted in the Page code, and is attached to the Model's header. The name of the Page or the Page Title, without adding the name of the Site, is also reproduced as the value of the <h2> tag.

Hi Aleksej,

Thanks. This specific part you cite in the manual is especially useful. I didn't know it replaced the H1 tag when the page title is visible. Fortunately I've left it as not visible.

Wx5 should clarify the documentation a bit by changing the label "H1 for page title" to "Conditional replacement of the <h1> tag with the page title"
