Do I need to install a php database in my hosting package?I am using hostgator.  en

Hi,

I have latest version of X5 Evo and successfully uploaded all my files, after getting correct up-to-date ftp info from my hosting eervice HostGator. The domain I bought from Godaddy Registrar a few years back.

However, with all files in correct folder on host I get the following error message in browser. I use Firefox.

**It appears you don't have
permission to access this page. 403 Error. Forbidden**

I have not installed a PHP database yet so could this be the reason for error message?

I also used an FTP program to speed up file and folder transmission and set transfer settings to binary.

Program is WinSCP FTP.

My site is: www.god-reiki.com

If I installed a database might this remove error message?

Cheers,

John :=p

The EVO version does not support a database, so it doesn't matter whether there is a database or not.

I use the built-in export function in WebSiteX5 and not an external FTP program.

Is the domain with the web host or is at least the domain connected to the web hosting package with the web host, e.g. via DNS, or are the domain and web hosting completely separate from each other?

One more thing, which PHP database version do I need or just the one on HostGator?

Cheers,

I use Godaddy for domain and Hostgator for host.

So are you saying I just need to reupload files and folders via Evo export to host and everything should work?

Since the EVO version cannot use a database, only the Pro version, it doesn't matter whether a database is available - understand?

If there is no connection from the domain at GoDaddy to the web space at Hostgator, then no website can be displayed when the domain is accessed.

If the domain is somewhere else, then a connection to the web space at the web host must be established and this is usually done via DNS. So check with GoDaddy and Hostgator how this is done.

If the domain is correctly connected to the HostGator web space, then the problem lies with HostGator's web space.

Have the files of the created website been uploaded to the correct directory in the HostGator web space?

To do this, HostGator support might have to help and check whether at least one file with the name index.html (this is the homepage) has been uploaded to the web space.

Just a question though, does the Evo upload do something special that an FTP program cannot?

I could not use Evo upload to transmit folders in one go but rather I had to create folders on host then manually send contents to each folder. I found that rather cumbersome which is why I was using FTP program.

The html files are in the Upload directory. Do these need to be outside the directories?

The directory into which the website files must be loaded varies from web host to web host, so ask the web host's support which directory is the right one.

I always upload my websites to the web space using WebSiteX5, but all the information in WebSiteX5 must be correct, otherwise it won't work or the files will end up in the wrong directory.

I probably stuffed up something along the way. Typical me. I have been getting a ton of help via chat on both Hostgator and Godaddy, but still getting stressed out.

I'll go chat with hosting site again. All my files for site are all in god-reiki.com folder. However the html files are all in the Upload folder. I used FTP as that was quickest method to upload them.

If you want the website to appear in the browser when you enter the domain, then the website created by WebSiteX5 with pages and subdirectories must be saved in a very specific directory.

The support or users of the web host should know which directory this is.

I myself am with Hosteurope and things are more complicated with the directory.

Even when using the FTP window, the “Target directory” information must be correct.

Thanks for info but it still doesn't work even though I transferred html files to main directory, god-reiki.com

I may have set site up wrong. That's highly likely. My site map is quite simplistic-menu then 4 html pages under that.

Should my file, project.iwpg2 be in main folder?

The homepage is usually called index.html, but it is not in the directory that the domain name leads to.

The file project.iwpg2 is a project file for WebSiteX5 on the computer and does not belong on the web space.

It is best if you make sure that the information for “URL of the website” and especially the “target directory” are entered correctly in WebSiteX5.

Then enter the FTP parameters correctly in WebSiteX5 and the external FTP program can be retired.

Maybe there are WebSiteX5 users who are with the same web host and can help.

PS: I'm going offline for about 10 hours now.

Thanks Daniel for all your help. I also changed permissions on each file to either 0755 or 0644. Didn't work however but I think I wll succeed soon. I'll go back to hostgator for more chat sessions.

Cheers

Thanks for your help Daniel, I just chatted with hostgator and they fixed problem at their end. Hopefully what they did will stop the 403 error message and hopefully site will now load. It will take a few hours to propagate.

Cheers,

John :-)

With my old website program I used an external FTP program, but with WebSiteX5 I always use the built-in export function to upload the website to the web space.

So leave the external FTP program aside and let WebsiteX5 do the job so that all files are uploaded correctly.

I've gone back through all the settings from start to finish. My preview within program displays properly. I also noticed that website X5 was installed in My Documents/Incomedia/ directory. Would that make a difference?

Before I upload files, which directory do I go to for selection of files? I have gone to My Documents/Incomedia/WebsiteX5Evo/God-Reiki/ The Fonts directory is empty, Backup dir is also empty, there are a bunch of files including HTML in the Uploads directory, and the project file in main directory. I am obviously doing something wrong, but what?

Why do you have to take the difficult route via the external FTP program when there is an easy way via the WebSiteX5 export function?

So just forget about all the files on your hard drive and use the export function of WebSiteX5.

I won't explain now how to load which files from the hard drive into which directories on the web space using an external FTP program.

The CSS files are missing from the web space, so the browser cannot display the design.

>> Was it uploaded again using the external FTP program?

If the website was exported with WebsiteX5, then there could be an error in the WebSiteX5 program.

Try reinstalling WebSiteX5. To do this, click on the user name in the top right corner and select “My Profile”. Here you will find the program for download under “Download” and the license key for installation under “License Key”.

Upload was done using export to internet with Website X5.

Software was installed a few days ago so it should be up to date.

If you can't get over the fact that searching for file names in the WebSiteX5 program is unnecessary, I'll have to end the help here.

Normally, WebSiteX5 takes care of all the files and the user should take care of the content of the page and let WebSiteX5 decide which files are needed and when, and then WebsiteX5 will upload them to the web space in a timely manner.

So first make sure that the WebSiteX5 website is completely exported.

No you are not talking to a wall. However, despite you I just managed to get my site working! I took all files and folders out of preview directory and placed them under root directory. /public_html/god-reiki.com Just checked and everything loads. Thanks for your assistance though.

Cheers,

According to the information, WebSiteX5 should contain this information when exported:

Target directory: /public_html/god-reiki.com
