I have made some big change to my website - and deleted many items, images, video and pdf documents. The pages have been deleted in the site.
When i upload the site, i can see (from Filezilla) that all the old images etc. have been upload also, even though they are not in the project.
How can i force Website X5 to ONLY upload what i have used?
Thanks.

WebsiteX5 does not delete any files on the web space; the user has to do this themselves.
If the files in the website directory are deleted beforehand, will the old files be there again after exporting from WebSiteX5?
To delete all with WebSite X5 and the FTP window, see screenshot below

Hi Daniel,
I deleted everything using Filezilla first - then upload the site, i also unsed Ctrl Preview first.
Thanks.
I changed an image in the object, deleted the old image in the FTP window and exported the page with the new image, but the old image no longer exists in the FTP window. So WebSiteX5 didn't export the old swapped image to the Internet either.

P.S
In a working project WX5 does not delete redundant files (left over when replaced) in the working directories. You should be able to dramatically reduce or remove old files by simply going to step 5, export project (I do not include preview or backup files, and I do not optimise, but feel free to play).
The created iwzip file should only include files actively in use in the project. you can then restart WX5 and import your newly created iwzip, this will NOT overwrite the existing project.
After cleaning out your hosting you can upload your website to the internet (upload all website files).
There should no longer be any redundant files uploaded to your hosting.
Please advise if this is not the case.

Hi Esahc.
No, this did not work.
I deleted the site using filezilla. Then cleared the cache on the host.
I exported the site to my desktop, unchecked all options. (Renamed the site left on Website X5)
Then imported the site back to Website X5, changed the name bac to the original.
Uploaded all files.
When i then view the site in Filezilla, the old files that are not used in the project anywhere, are back.
I tried using a different project name, and repeated (just in case it was picking up files due to same project name). This made no difference.
When i am uploading the site, i can see in Website X5, the files beinf sent - one of them is a video so it stops on this for a while - even though it is no longer in the project anywhere at all.
These files (images, videos, pdf's) must be stored as resources elsewhere and linked to the project.
Thanks.

A bit more checking, taking the video as an example. I can see it is in the video folder with the preview for the site (on the pc) - if i delete it, then preview the site again from Website X5, it is added again.
So this must mean it is still in the project, i just don't understand how it can be, it was only even used on the home page as a header, in the row settings, i can see it no longer there.
The same goes for some images, in the preview folder - but i don't believe they are in the porject, i have done the ctrl preview.
Any suggestions how to find/remove these from the project?
Thank you.
you forget one step...
the procedure is this.
1) You export the project , unchecking it from backups and preview.
2) You import the resulting iwzip file.
3) Go to step 5 - Optimize Project....
4) Eliminates resources that are no longer used
5) start
..
at that point there will be no more unused files

Hi Claudio,
I did it exactly as described - some files have gone, but not all.
For example i am still getting a video that is not in the project, it is in the preview and uploaded.
Is there any way of finding which page this is on - i have checked each element on the home page, nothing.
Thanks.

I have been testing this more - i can see that the files "Versions, Library" include references to two files, one is an image and one is a video.
However these files are not used in the project - -anywhere.
Why is the software still outputting them? How can i clean the files out?
Thanks.
Wait for Incomedia staff to submit an offer to consider the project and provide an email address.
Then create a backup copy of the project (file extension .iwzip) and upload this backup copy, for example, to WeTransfer.com (free up to 2 GB). From there you will receive a link to send to the Incomedia staff email address.
Incomedia employees are online from Monday to Friday during office hours in Italy.
it seems strange to me , everyone I know who has done the procedure I told you....
that is
project optimization, exported without backup and preview solved...
while waiting for the incomedia staff, put here the image of the optimization...
this one to understand...

Hi Claudio,
I have done the procedure again -I checked optimise project, unchecked backup and preview, exported. Then re-imported, i ran the optimise again and checked delete unconnected resourses.
The issue is that when i export connected resources i can see that the video file is exported. But, it is not used in the project.
So the problem i have is, how do i find out which object is causing this? It's like the video file is still somehow attached to an object.
Thanks.
Hello,
could you please provide me with a copy of the project so that I can take a closer look?
You can export it in Step 5 - Export, choosing the Export the project option to generate an IWZIP file.
You can then upload the file with https://www.swisstransfer.com/ or similar services, and provide a download link at support @ incomedia.eu (without the spaces.
Thank you.

Hi Eric C.
The file was sent via swisstransfer, today.
Many thanks for taking a look.
Please report back here the reason unused files persisted in uploading so it may help others with similar issues.
If it is not a bug, it must be working....
worked with everyone the procedure I recommended

Hi Eric.C.
Have you been able to look at the file please?
Thanks.
Hello,
apologies for the wait.
I have exported the project as a test, and these were the image and video files generated by the export:
Do they match what was uploaded for you as well?
If so, from what you have described there should be no videos at all, whereas regarding images could you give an example of which should no longer be here?
Thank you.

Hi Eric.C
I think the images were dealt with using the methods suggested above.
It's really just the video - it exports, and is included as a connected resource - but is not used in the poroject.
If i upload to the website, the video is added again.
Another interesting thing is the SVG logo image, it is exported as an unconnected resource, but yet is used in the project. If i delete unconnected resources, i loose the logo.
Thanks
Hello,
Take care. If you delete files from the website via Filezilla or through WSX5 interface or with other method you have the risk to delete some files created directly by the website on the webserver.
And when you re-export your project, these files are not transferred again, because they have beene created by the website previously.
A good example is the comments file which is created by the website, when user adds comment. If you delete the comment file, you will delete comments with no way to reinstall them by an export...
The only way is to have a local backup of your files from the website.
Axel
Hello,
I have sent you an e-mail with a download link for a corrected version of the IWZIP, please take a look.

Hi Eric.C
Yes - the file works as expected, all fine.
I am not really sure what caused the issue - a corrupt file?
Should i have done anything different?
Thanks
