Maintaining links to files when moving to new computer

Is there any way to move my projects to a new computer without restoring the backup, which copies all the linked files to a folder? I just did it and it duplicated all the files which I already have on my computer. I would have preferred it it would allow me to keep the files where they were, and just maintain links to them. Suggestions?

The best way to move the projects to a new computer is to use the "Export the Project" in Menu 5.
When you change computer the directories paths will be not exaclty same and in this case having only the images linked it could happen that it will not find them. As example if the username on windows is not the same of the previous computer it will not loadthe images.

One issue with restoring the project is that it duplicates all the files that are already on my computer, and therefore takes up more space. Is there any way to avoid this?

You can move also only the project folder but then you need to have the same directory structure with the same names on the new computer. If only 1 name changes the project will not show some parts.
With the export option the project will be adapted to the new computer and will create a directory where all files necessary to the project will be stored.
