Is there some feature in website X5 evolution 9 that requires MySQL? It would be alot cheaper to get hosting for my website if it does not need MySQL.

MySQL is only used for databases. (like if you want to host a forum).
You can only use it with x5 when you collected data from an email form and want to send it there (to an SQL database).
X5 makes further no use of SQl, but be aware, usally this comes in packages, you need PHP 5 support !
evo9 does not use MySQL or any other database engine for that matter.
