Audio/video player is not working  en

Autor: Tom E.

I've just purchased version 10.The audio/videoplayer is not working at all. When I link to a flv file on my server the player reads "Your browser must support HTML5 or Adobe Flash™" ? ! But ... the browser is X5's preview.

X5 claims to be able to work with flv or mp4. I tried both formats ... nothing works!
Same thing with audio.

I dont have problems watching ANY kind of video or audio outside X5 and have all the lates versions of flash, QT ect. I've attached a screenshot ... and yes ... the path is 100 % correct.

I had the same problem in version 9, and have all my video and audio outside X5.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Hello Tom,

These files are visible in the Preview but it seems that the plugin is missing.

Can you please try to install the chrome browser and then update the Flash Player Plugin?

If this should not help unzip the attached file and then move the Extensions folder in the installation folder of WebSite X5 v10 in Program files and test the preview again.

Please keep me updated.

Hello Tom,

Sorry for the missing attachment. You can download the Chrome Browser from here:

www.google.com/chrome/

Yes Version 10 has a built-in browser which is based on Chromium and it can use the plugins for flash installed with Chrome browser.

Please keep me updated.

Hello Claudio.

I have now installed Google Chrome Browser - as my standard browser - and have the latest version of Flash Player. But it's still not working ... :-(

I still get the message "Your browser must support HTML5 or Adobe Flash™ when I try to preview.

When I try to put my flash-animated banner in my header ... it's not working
It worked fine in version 8 - have a look on my website www.tomtombeat.dk

When I try to link to an flv file on my server ...  it's not working

What more does it take to make it work?

sincerely,
Tom

Hello again ...

I forgot to tell you ... that I unzipped the attached file and then moved the Extensions folder into the installation folder of WebSite X5 v10. No diffrence.

I must inform you ... that if you have IE8 like I do - you can't see attached files. It was when I installed the Google Chrome Browser I was able to see your attachement. Pretty important in a situation like this and the reason of misunderstanding.

Well ... I did all you told me ... what to do ?

sincerely,
Tom

Hello Tom,

Please try this to open following link in Chrome http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and so you will install the external flash player in Chrome which will be used in the preview too.

If this should not help please try to copy the url in the preview address bar and paste it in a different browser to check if then it works.

Please keep me updated.

Hello Claudio.

When I open the link in Chrome I get this message:

"Your Google Chrome browser already includes Adobe® Flash® Player built-in. Google Chrome will automatically update when new versions of Flash Player are available".

I have the lates flashplayer allready and therefore there is nothing to update. When I go to my website using Chome, all flash elements are working fine in Chrome. So that's not the problem.

But in X5 it's still not working. Do you think it could be an idea to re-install the whole upgrade?

I have spend so much time with this problem now and still not able to make any use of the version 10 upgrade.

sincerely,
Tom

Hello Tom,

Try to install the flash player from following link http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/?fpchrome and then check again if it works. If this should not help try to uninstall the program and then install it again to check if this can help.

I suggest to try to install the external player in Chrome because in most cases it works after.

Please keep me updated.

Hello Claudio.

Yes!

That did the trick. :-)

I installed Flash player again. (third time)
Now everything works fine locally and online on the PC platform.

I did some extensive tests with audio and video using a PC, a Macbook Pro, 2 external people with iPads and two iPhones.

Everything works perfect on PC!

Video works only if my sourcevideo (mp4 video) comes from my local drive. I guess that the video get’s some kind of conversion or scripting in the upload process …? Streamed video do have some problems.

There are still some problems concerning iPads or IPhones:

  1. If I use a flash animated banner - in the header - it works on PC and Mac’s, but not on iPads or IPhones where the flash animated banner disappear.
  2. Steamed video (flv from server) does not work on iPads or IPhones. I stream directly from my server and its working fine on PC.
  3. Mp3 audio does not work iPads or IPhones.
  4. Mp4 video uploaded from my local drive thru the X5 works on iPhone! Tomorrow a friend of mine will check his iPad, then I know for sure about that.

Browser issues with the video player:

PC – Internet Explorer 8: When appearing in stop mode … the video player is just black with a play button. Play movies fine.

PC – Google Chrome: When appearing in stop mode … the video player is showing a still picture of the first frame of the film. Nice! Smile  Play movies fine.

Mac – Safari: When appearing in stop mode  … the video player is showing a still picture, but the video keep buffering but will not play (mp4 uploaded from local disk). Streamed video (flv from server) works fine.

Mac – Firefox: When appearing in stop mode … the video player is just black with a play button. Play movies fine. Streamed video (flv) also works fine.

It’s like, everything works on PC, some trouble on Mac's and lot of trouble on iPads and iPhones.

Is there anything to do about these issues?

sincerely,
Tom

Hello Tom,

Flash is not supported on iPhone and iPad and you need to use the banner in another format beause this is a limit imposed on apple devices. Flv files uses flash to be showed since it's an flash format. Try instead mp4 which works perfectly on computer and apple devices.

For the mp3 on the apple devices it has been added only the support on AAC formats like m4a or mp4.

The issue comes that every browser or device wants a different format and in most cases mp4 is the one that is visible on most devices and when not supported by the browser on pc it will use as fallback the flash player allowing to be visible.

Please feel free to write back if you need more information.

Hello Claudio.

Thank you so much for your assistance and for your advice.Smile

Now I can start working on my new website.

I just have one last question and one suggestion/request for future updates ...

Qestion:

Is there any software which can covert a flash animated banner into a format that iPad/phones can show ... that works with X5? In other words, what format can be used in X5 for animated banners?

Suggestion/request

I could be sooo fantastic if it was possible to grab an elective still picture from a movie, to work as a still picture in the videoplayer. Or, just be able to load in your own picture so it appears in the videoplayer in stop mode. Maybe with a text option ... well just a sugesstion.

Again thank you

sincerely,
Tom

Hello Tom,

You can search for programs that converts swf (flash files) in html5. There are different programs able to do it. The code generated can easily be added in WebSite X5 in the HTML Code Function in the header or with the HTML%Widget Object in the content.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. You can open an "Idea" post on answers.websitex5.com for the suggestions so that they will be taken in consideration by our developers.

Many thanks!

I too am having problems with the Video and Audio object. When I add the object and located the audio file, the row it is on is expanded. When I try and adjust the height & width the program ends with an error. I did not have this problem with the free version.
