Hi,
My site is almost done. Yay!
But - I ran a PageSpeed test with Google, which told me that my site was at 54% of what it should be :(
I've managed to get it up to 70%, but I'm now stuck with a few things I don't understand how to do.
Rather than post the lot, I would like to try and address them post by post for clarity reasons, and for other users in the future.
First up - What can I do about this:
Specify a character set
Specifying a character set early for your HTML documents allows the browser to begin executing scripts immediately.
Suggestions for this page
The following resources have no character set specified in their HTTP headers. Specifying a character set in HTTP headers will speed up browser rendering.

Hello Steve,
In the code the character set is already present in the code and it's UTF-8. It seems that the server is not sending the charset in the http header.
You can ask the hosting provider how to proceed to make sure that the server send in the http header also the character set.
Please feel free to write back if you need more information.

I will email my host - thank you ;)

Hi,
I got a reply from my host which basically pointed me to this:
https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/best-practices/rendering#SpecifyCharsetEarly
Which means it is something to do with the software, right?
Help :(
Hello Steve,
The program adds the metatag with the correct charset in the exported website. To change the http response header, the other alternative, can be only done on the hosting server.
You already have the charset specified in the file with the meta tag.
Many thanks!
