Unable to verify website with Google

I've been trying to get my website verified by Google, I have websiteX5 compact 9 so don't have access to expert settings.
I tried to put metatag in page description boxes of each page including sitemap. when I try to verify I get a verification failed. I'm really quite annoyed that although I can build and upload a website unless I upgrade I cannot use a search engine, makes the idea of a website pointless unless people can find it.
Is there any way of getting the metatag into the website or is the only answer to upgrade?

Yes, there is, you can also create a html document then you can upload this file to your website ftp server.
You need offcource the file made from google website verification. and an ftp program to upload the file to your website. you could use fillezilla for this.

Managed to get website verified using your answer. Thanks a lot, now just need to wait as it seems it takes Google a while to put websites on the search engine.
