Why Header Images Saving as PNG

Hello
I notice that the header image files are saving as PNG which is increasing the size almost by 10 times the original JPG size. Is there any way to keep as JPG files as this makes the images very large.

Figured it out, when you add any effects to an image it converts it to PNG but making the file 10 times the size is really a lot.
when you add effects, file will converted to png because of transparenty of the effect! jpg file can not be transparent.

I understand Anthony but increasing the size by so much is not good, the jpg is 50 - 70kb and it increases the image to 400 - 600 as a png file that is too large especialy for slow connections, this slows down your site.

its the same thing in photoshop, but over there still it depend on level that you want to set for jpg to be saved, but still it shouldn't jump from 50 to 400, I totally agree with you, it will slow it down.
I think its better to post your Idea for incomedia and name it "image resizing".
remeber to use Idea icon. hopfully we will see improvment in next update/version.
