Hi,
I just bought a new HP laptop which runs on Windows 8.1.
I've had a lot of problems installing software purchased in 2014 on this laptop. It appears that the software either installs a driver not compatible with HP laptops OR the software is Windows 8 compliant and NOT Windows 8.1 compliant (!). These instances has caused my laptop to crash and I have to end up reseting it various times...
Before I install Website X5 Evo 10 on this new laptop, can I find out if it is can work with Windows 8.1 and if there are any know clashes with HP Pavilion Laptops?
Been through too many reseting and reinstallations. Hope you understand my frustration!
Thank you,
Shell

Hi Shelley,
As far as I know X5 is compatible with Windows 8.1. I have had no problems installing Version 10 or 11 in Windows 8.1. Before you install close all none essential programs especially any programs that come installed by Hewlett Packard such as HP Updates etc. then run the install.
Hope this helps

Hi Dave!
Thank you for responding so quickly!
I will try it out later in the day. Waiting for a bit more feedback first, especially for the issue with clashes with the newer HP laptops! Argghhh... had to get to get this brand...

Hello Shelley,
The program works correctly on Windows 8.1 and it has been tested on this windows version. I would suggest you to make a test installation to be sure all works correctly and before styarting to work to make a test project where you check first all functions to see if you could have any issues and once done to proceed with your projects.
Many thanks!

Hi Claudio,
I've just received email confirmation from one of my software vendors that there is a "...rare driver incompatibility between DuplexSecure and Hewlett Packard in combination with the Windows 8.1 Update 1...".
I do not know what is 'DuplexSecure'. Does X5 use this to function?
I am being extra careful now because when my laptop crashed, there was no way to restart windows other than a factory reset. Even the 'refresh' option could not help. Imagine the hours spent on resetting, then reinstalling and then crashing again because I did not know which software(s) was the culprit.
I like X5 lots and need it to upkeep my website. Please advise!
(I want to upgrade to X5 Evo 11 too!!!)
Thank you so much!
Hi Shelly,
As far as I knoow duplex secure is a part of a program called Image burn a cd buring software. It has nothing to do with X5. If you have on your Pc and dont use it, you can uninstall it from windows.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for responding. Below is a quote from the latest email regarding this problem from my software vendor -
"...Its a problem between the hpdskflt.sys driver (needed for HP 3D Driveguard) and the SPTI driver (needed for burning CD's by many software applications). The problem occured after Microsoft had released Update 1 for Windows 8.1..."
It seems that there are a few software facing this problem too and it only affects HP laptops!
Just as David had suggested, the vendor suggested that I uninstall some of the drivers (but only) after going into safe mode when windows does not start and delete something from the registry. I am really not a techie and I am not familiar with the Win 8 UI. I think I have to get HP to help me out this time.
Thank you everyone for your help! I may not be able to solve this problem myself, I hope I had raised some awareness about the problem.
Most importantly, you guys are tremendously helpful!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
