Mobile friendly Evolution 8?  en

Currently using WebsiteX5 Evolution 8. My site is not passing the Google test for mobile friendly: text too small, clickable elements too close together; viewport not set, content wider than screen.  Can I just change the dimensions of my page, i.e., make it more narrow and longer; or is there some fix thru WebsiteX5 or script to put in? I contacted some places that advertise conversion, but they see very expensive! Looks like Evo 8 is now considered an older program .... so maybe I'd have to upgrade, but concerned I'll loose data/mapping in the process.

Hello Charlene,

With a lot of you it could work. But it's better and easyer to upgrade, also it is the better to maitain.

I started writing a tutorial but shortly after that v12 came out and I stopped working on it because it was already all in v12.

Yu can find it on my test site: http://andreweb.nl/x5_test/mobile-friendly.html

BUt you need to keep changes in sync in 2 projects...

There are a lot of changes so some things are not like v8, but there are way more improvements and enhancements. Try the demo version and see if it is in anyway a better solution. http://www.websitex5.com/en/website-builders-comparison-chart.html

PS

Have you tryed my new htacces file ? I am very curious if it works now..... Let me kno in the other topic.

Thanks, Andre. Can I import directly from v8 into v12? Do I still need two projects if I am working in v12? And if our primary goal is to have great SEO and be mobile friendly, is there any strong benefit to use the professional version v. the $75 version?

I did try the htacess file, and I still can't get it to work, but I have not yet called GoDaddy for them to tell me if I am putting it in the wrong place. I see it in there plain as day, but it's still the redirect that is getting the user to the new site.  So I guess I need to get back to that soon. I have had family staying with me from the U.S., so not nearly as much computer time as I normally can squeeze into the day. But now that I've learned about Google and their SEO policies favoring mobile sites, I'm getting pulled in yet another direction.

V12 pro has better seo and you do not need to have 2 projects in v12 evo or pro.

But there are websites that also check the seo so if it's only for seo I would  give it a another thought.

But the last file i send in the post did not help also ?? (for the htacces) strange ... ?

Anyway users are redirected at the moment so nu rush.

It's for mobile also - I'm reading that Google will change your search rank if your site is not mobile-friendly, including for smart phones, not just tablets. So that is truly the primary goal of any further websit change. So if it's impractical to use Evo8, I would upgrade to V12, if that is not to complicated. And hope there is a magic button I can press to make it mobile-friendly. I tried to download a user guide for V12, but apparently can only do that once you purchase it.

Yes, but you can test the pro and evo demo version, even at the same time if you wish. press F1 in the demo version to get the help file

They both handle responsive sites where google mobile friendly test will pass.

Only is backwards compatibilty from v9, so you need a user that can export your project from v8 to v9, from there you can import in v12.

There are some manuals about the version changes for export and import. I have the links on my test site.

Hi Andre, my continued thanks for your support. I don't know any other users, so would I upgrade to v9, then import the data, then import to demo version of v12?

No problem,

I am not sure if you can import in the demo version do you have an import button in the project selection?

You can view what v12  has more then v8 and how it works and test everything out that's it in the demo, all function are available but there is a restriction on pages (10) and you can't upload.

V9 is not available any more so you need a friendly user to transform you project from v8 to v9. after that you can import all versions from v9 and upwards in v12.

There was a big change in v9 in the templates that has made importing from older versions then v9 in v12 not realistic any more... so only v9 can import an v8 project.

Guess I'm behind the times. Don't know any users, so no one to go to for the import from v8 to v9. Hate to have to start from scratch. Is this something you are available to do? If not, I welcome suggestions to find a friendly user.

I am also downloading v12 and will review it ... I might consider doing a total redesign and forget importing.

I was hoping I might be able to copy an image gallery from v8 and paste it into a gallery in v12 ... doesn't look like that is possible.

You don't know me then ?

Starting from scratch is sometimes not bad, there are a lot of changes and you have to walk through and test the older project anyway.

If you stick to basics you have a new website in v12 pritty fast with a lot of new options that you then can make use off from the start.

You can also try to make a start in v12 demo (max 10 pages) take the most importent or most work needed pages to start and see if you like it.

the v12 demo project can be imported in the normal version once you have bought it.

You can also send the v8 project to me, but it depends a bit on how big it is.

But I would suggest to make a small start in the demo version and see if you like it .....Just test / play away ...

Thanks Andre. I dabbled a bit in the v12, and will try to make some headway on it this weekend. Thanks for the offer for my sending v8 to you. When I look at the properties for the file it says the size is 1791 kbs.

You need to export the project in step5 export and batch to folder, full optimzation, then zip the created folder.

If it is below 10 Mb you can mail it (click my avatar) if it's bigger I will send you the login for the upload page.

But maybe you want to start from scratch, so just let me know.

Thanks. Let me work on it this weekend, though I am sure I will have questions along the way. For instance, I started the demo, customized the header, set it for responsive design, and when I got to the home page I see there were only two colums and I added a third. I then got a message that I changed the layout and to check responsive design. Seems like the page is around 960 in width. Can you give me the parameters to stay within as I design some pages so I stay properly formatted for both laptop and mobile?

x5 does this automaticly. just make the project and play with screen sizes. Disquard the check responsive message for the moment. Later you can fine tune this if needed, i have left about 99 % is standard settings for responsive.

Not sure what you mean by "play with the sizes." Also, when I do a preview I am looking at it on my 15" lapstop screen. From viewing the tutorial, looks like it automatically gets scaled back for tablets and smart phones .. but how do I know which columns, data, will show up as the page becomes responsive. Is there a way to test the site to see how it appears on these other devices?  Is there any way to view a PDF document of a user guide now that I have the demo? thanks ...

You can use the F1 help option. This will give you the same information as the manual.

If you set your preview screen not to maximum, you can change the screen size (drag), this shows you how it looks like on smaller screens.

Also top right in the preview you can select multiple screen width and view of responsive settings.

In the responsive settings in x5 on pages (step3), you can change the way that objects are shown (in what sequence) and also you can lockout objects in responsive. set the buttun on top (on or off) and then select the objects.

Again just press F1 if youre there for help on the possible options and how to use them.

If the screen size of your laptop is too small for the desktop view then you can change this by choosing a smaller width of the header in the template style (step1)

The steps that responsive has are shown in the preview on top (colours) also shown in TAB responsive step1 general settings.

So you are saying that while in pages (not sure what you mean by step 3 - the tutorial?) that there is a feature where I select things I want shown on mobiles?

Yes, thats what you asked aboout a few post earlyer. step 3 is a steps in x5 (on the left)

in the TAB responsive design of a page you can set how all objects are loaded and wich will be displayed. Normally the program sets the objects of that page starting with one and then nr further downwards and it will show all objects. But you can change that if ou wish.

Thanks so much for all your help .... is there a way to private message additional questions directly to you, Andre, as I get more into it?
