Tools to advance slideshow pictures in v.12

I am rebuilding my website. The option to create a photo gallery does not produce any tools for advancing the slides. For example there are none of ---> <---- these to click on. I am sure this is minor but I can't figure it. Help please.

In the style TAB of the gallery object, there is below an option to "show navigation bullets"
Also you can select where they will be and some style,.

I have been doing this but the results are the same. I will keep trying.
did you refresh your webpage after changing and uploading with ctrl-F5 ?
