Coupon Code for single item error  en

When using a global discount coupon code this works as expected, with the discount shown and a grand total, e.g.
Order Total: £100.00
Coupon10: -£10.00
Grand Total: £90.00

However, when using individual discount coupons for each item instead, the Grand Total label and field are missing from the order form, so that the total payable is not displayed, e.g.
Order Total: £100.00
Coupon10: Coupon 10


The coupon name in this latter instance is also shown in the field where the discount amount should be.

It would also be better if the Order Total, Coupon Code and Grand Total fields were a little larger, as at the moment only very short coupon codes can be used before that field wraps, with the minus sign for the discount appearing on the first line instead of next to the amount.

I've verified the report and I would like to try and provide more information on how the information is displayed.

If you're using a global discount, as you mentioned before, the Grand Total is in fact displayed and the total discount of the cart is shown too.

If you use a coupon code specific for a product though, the discount will appear immediately next to the product instead:

if the discount was displayed again below, perhaps the customer could get confused and think that the same amount was removed twice. As of now, the discount by coupon will be displayed on the row relative to the product

Thak you Stefano, that makes more sense now in the light of your explanation and where some items may have a coupon code discount applied and some not, although the specific coupon code for the discounted item is then dissociated on the order form from the item to which it applies, which may (and did!) cause some confusion.

How would this work in the case where, say, one item has a 10% discount ('COUPON10') and a second item on the same order has a 20% discount ('COUPON20'), if this is a valid use case? Would both coupons be displayed where the single one is now, which would surely be even more confusing? Some of the end users of this site are likely to be very unsophisticated, so confusion is to be avoided at all costs.

If I get chance I'll try this for myself, but I'm under a lot of pressure at the moment to get the page finished and live.

Can I please also draw your attention to two other items, the wrapping of any global coupon name longer than about 4 characters that I mentioned in my original post, and a specific validation error with the global coupon.

The validation error occurs in the specific instance when the global coupon name has a trailing zero as in the default 'COUPON0' example and only the zero is entered in the Coupon Code box. The Coupon Code is incorrectly shown as Valid in this case, although no discount is applied. A very brief test with alternative coupon codes did not reveal any further similar errors, but this was not an exhaustive check.

I have attached a zip file with three screengrabs from the actual web page showing the results with an individual Coupon Code, a global Code illustrating the wrap, and a further one showing the validation error.

Thank you for your explanation and time, and I would be grateful for any further comments and information you may have on the points raised above.

I'm glad I could shed some light on this matter.

About the other two issues you mentioned:

1) The wrapping of the name: Perhaps I didn't check the previous posts carefully enough but I didn't find mention of this problem. Could you explain it to me again, please?

2) I've attempted to verify this but was unable to reproduce it. I insert a number 0 in the coupon code box with the same coupon you have active, and it gets refused alright. Perhaps something else was the cause of it. Does it still happen with you? What if you try to delete all coupon and insert them again?

Please verify this and keep me posted on the result

Thank you for your further efforts and follow up.

1) Please compare the Coupon Code discount field in the two screengrabs attached. With a 6-character global coupon code ('GLOBAL' for illustration purposes), the name of the coupon wraps onto the first line together with the minus sign for the actual discount value. If the applicable coupon code is reduced to 4 characters in length ('GLOB'), it sits alongside the actual discount amount on a single line as expected. (As noted in the final paragraph of my original post)

It's a trivial issue but does throw the formatting of the order form off if anything other than a very short discount code is used for security. It would be very simply resolved by either:

(A) ensuring that the minus sign remains associated with the actual discount amount rather than appended to the end of the coupon name as at present, which I assume is a bug or an oversight. Longer coupon codes would still wrap onto two lines but at least the overall appearance would be correct.

or

(B) increasing the fixed size of the Coupon Code field (and the other Total fields for consistency) to permit more characters alongside the actual discount amount.

2) I'm sorry if I have wasted your time but I now cannot reproduce the previous incorrect verification with the trailing zero either. It was definitely there and reproducible when I first (accidentally) came across it, as evidenced by the screengrab provided, but I have been unable to provoke it again since.

3) In the light of your explanation, the way the global and individual coupon code discounts are applied and shown on the order form now makes sense. I have also confirmed that only a single coupon code is valid for individual product discounts rather than multiple different codes, so now consider both these questions closed. Again, apologies; I have a difficult client who is making impossible demands at very short notice, and the answer was not immediately obvious in the heat of the moment.
