Problem with Shopping Cart Discount Function  en

I have an online health shop that has many product pages and I use the discount and coupon code function very often for my customers.

The problem is that now and again when I set product discounts, the Valid from and Expires on function causes the software to change every extention from .html to .php on every single page that the discounted product in on - and this is many pages.  I cannot change the extention back to .html (because it is greyed out - see pictures) unless I delete the relevant discounted product(s).

I then have to delete the products in the shopping cart, save, change all the extentions on every page back to .html (as they are no longer greyed out), and re add the products.

This has happened before and is very annoying and frustration as I have to spend huge amounts of time correcting the mess.

The other problem it causes (if I don't spot it soon enough) is that it duplicates all of the affected pages.  So I have duplicate pages with the same content - one with a .html extention and one with a .php extention.  This is a NO NO in Google's eyes with duplicate content and bad for S.E.O. as I have put alot of work into this websites S.E.O.

I'm seriously hacked off with this Shopping Cart!

Hello Nigel

Some functions requires PHP - nothing to do about that.

This is why the type is changed to PHP. What is the reason you don't like the format to be php?

I agree that there should be a (checkable ) function in X5 that would automatically delete the unused pages - should be in the upload routine.

Example : if on upload a page03.php will be uploaded, then page03.html should be deleted ( if existing ).

Suggestion : you could once and for all make the shopping pages as php-pages.

Hi John,

Thanks for your input.  I understand the software does change the extention for certain features (like the blog object) but I have used the discount feature before without it changing.  I've had this problem come up before on a few occasions but I just begrudgingly changed it all back.

The reason I don't want to change from .html to .php now is that the site has been around for a while and is well established in Google SERPs. It ranks very well in Google and I don't want to lose all that effort I have put in to making it rank well.

Now, based on my experiences with Website X5, whenever I build a new website I always make sure I change the extention .php .  It's just that when I created this website it was my first ecommerce site and in hindsight I would have used .php .

I don't understand why usually it works and sometimes it doesn't work as expected.

Hello Nigel

I surely understand the issue with your website's score that you're currently mentioning, but there's something not right here that I would like to understand better.

The discount feature can surely be used with HTML pages but I don't see how the timed one could since its logic mandatorily needs PHP. I do not believe the timed discount ever worked without having pages set as PHP as it simply cannot.

In short, if you need to use this type of discount, PHP pages are mandatory and of course, the software won't let you change it back as long as it is active.

The normal discount though, you can use freely with simple HTML pages.

I hope I have been helpful

Stefano
