The project could not be saved

I have several projects but only one of them is unable to be saved. When I try to save the project I get an error alert (see the attached image. The swedish phrase, which is repeated three times, means: access to the path is denied).
I have worked on this project many times during a couple of years, but this problem has not occurred before.
Why and what to do?
Postato il
Siddhi, since it sounds like you can open the project, can you export the project (step5) and create an iwzip. If successful, this can be imported (& will not overwrite the existing project).
Autore
No, it is not possible
Please try without including preview.
Can you duplicate the project before you open it (so if it is necessary to delete content to find the problem you have a good working project)?
. . . . and lastly, as I opened WX5 to answer your question I see it has been updated, have you tried v2020.3.4 (there were a number of issues, perhaps this update fixes your problem?)
Autore
It is still not possible to export the project. I also made a duplicate of the project. The duplicate has the same error
Siddhi, I have come across this before and to find the problem and ultimately fix it I deleted things. I only ever worked on a duplicate of the original.
Delete a page and save, if this doesn't solve the problem delete another, and so on.
Assuming you do not run out of pages (with one problem it turned out to be an issue in the header which was very annoying) you should be able to isolate where the problem is, so working on yet another duplicate, delete objects on the problem page and save after each deletion.
Once the problem object has been located you could then repair or replace it in either a duplicate or the original.
I will be interested to know which object was causing the issue.
Autore
Now I have deleted everything in the project. Still the problem remains!!!
???? !!!! Crikey. . . .
So what is left?
Is there a chance you are saving to an external device (USB) a network or shared folder or perhaps a synchronised folder (one drive)?
Autore
Dropbox, yes.
Try disable Dropbox (log out).
Save only local without synchronisation and let us know??
Autore
That makes no difference
OK, so what is left? Header and Footer?
In a duplicate delete all content in them & try save.
Autore
That makes no difference
Siddhi, I am about out of ideas, normally I would ask for a copy of the site via iwzip, but this is not possible.
Do you have an older version of the project that saves reliably? If so, you could import that and by opening WX5 with the "faulty" version copy and paste to bring the old version up to date? The alternate would appear to be to recreate the project from scratch and use copy&paste to transfer content (frequently creating a new uniquely named iwzip just in case)
I am at a loss because you say you have effectively deleted everything with no success.
Autore
Is it possible to ask the programmer, if he knows what call or command is behind this? I mean, for example there is a xml-document called metadata.xml which tells the program if the project is open (or unexpected terminated) - maybe there is another document which give some wrong information to the program....
Siddhi, the only way to identify the issue is to work with your project. You could attempt to create a zip file of all your project excluding backup, preview and upload folders, if it is not too large someone here or at Incomedia may be able to take a look?
I suspect it will be quicker to recreate the site.
Hello Siddhi,
I hid your link because you left all the connection data to the server and it can be dangerous if an idiot takes the hand...
The message remains visible to Incomedia technicians and moderators.

Autore
OK, thank you! That didn't cross my mind....
Siddhi, I have downloaded your project. So far you are correct (it will not save)
For what it's worth, do you have any idea what you did/added just before it stopped saving?
(in the meantime I will continue to play)
This post has been marked for Incomedia's attention, with luck they will find the issue far quicker than I can (I am sure this must be a simple problem like missing files, but it is far too obvious for me to see so far)
Autore
When I started to recreate the project I had just worked with the template structure and the template content. Thereafter it wasn't possible to save...
Hi guys,
I also tested in several ways without success, as well as with previous available backups ... Nothing at all ...
In addition, when you want to delete an existing backup (project in the choice page) the software crashes. Still a problem with the recording path. Very strange!
Sorry I couldn't do more.
Good luck,
J.P.

I think there must be a severe bug in the program. Hopefully the programmers can identify it and correct it...SOON!
Hello Siddhi,
I have your project opening and working correctly (saves without error, etc.)
I've exported it as an IWZIP file which you can import back into WebSite X5 at the Project Selection screen.
If you can provide an email address then I'll email it over to you. The forum obscures email addresses by default, so you would need to 'disguise' your address by writing it in the following format:
email_at_email.com
Kind regards,
Paul
Search the WebSite X5 Help Center
My apologies, I've just found an email address in the project itself... is it OK to use that one, or does it belong to a client? It's on your 'Contact' page.
Autore
yes it's mine
That's great... I'll email it over now.
Autore
Thanks a lot for the help! What was the cause and the solution?
Now I could edit, save and export to the web. BUT after that I got this error message!!! Something is still wrong!
And now when I open the project and try to save there is a similar error!
I would take the error messages at face value, Siddhi... something locally is prohibiting access to the directory/files stated in the error messages. This could be antivirus software, or perhaps lack of administrative rights, or restrictive folder permissions... I simply don't know, and it would be extremely difficult to troubleshoot without access to your own computer system.
However, I do notice some 'odd' things which might lead your thinking in a particular direction, and possibly help you to find the culprit.
In the error message the project folder is called 'SMPub1', but your project is actually called 'SMPub' (without the numeral) - Can you navigate to this SMPub1 folder? Does it actually exist? Are you working from a copy of the original project?
The current version of WebSite X5 no longer saves projects in a folder called 'WebSite X5 - Professional' - it now saves in 'WebSite X5 - Pro' - Can you see a folder called 'WebSite X5 - Pro' in the 'Incomedia' folder in the same path?
The path refers to a drive 'D'... what is this drive 'D'? Is it a local drive, a network drive, a mapped drive?
You could use the Event Viewer in Windows to highlight exactly what is happening at the precise moment that access to the requested file is denied. I strongly recommend doing this as it will almost certainly yield useful clues.
I may be wrong but I don't believe there is anything fundamentally amiss with your WebSite X5 project. I feel instead that you have a localised issue, but Incomedia will be along soon anyway to provide an official comment.
I rebuilt your IWZIP file manually after discarding duplicate, redundant and corrupted files within it. Your core project has not been altered in any way.
Paul, my initial thought was that it revolves around an actively synchronised drop box.
Autore
It is not antivirus or firewall. It is not dropbox.
SMPub1 is the name of the imported project that you sent me - the one I sent you SMPub was still present, that's the cause of the name change.
The name of the folder, Website X5 - Professional, is created by the program and not changed by any new version. I have now changed the name to Website X5- Pro, still without any difference in behavior.
Drive D: is local and the drive where I store my docs.
You talk about duplicate, redundant och corrupted files that you discarded. Exactly what files was that?
Now I have opened and converted all my projects to the latest update. The first saving went well. The second time I open any of my project and try to save they all fail in the same way.!!!
I have a thought: since several programmers fail to handle Swedish characters, maybe that is the case here too. The program stores some data at this path "C:\Users\Ägaren\AppData\Local\Incomedia\WebSite X5 - Professional" - could that be the problem?
I'm afraid I am out of ideas, Siddhi. We will wait for Incomedia to respond.
At this point I am inclined to agree with Gordon (Esahc)... I think Dropbox is interfering with your data in some way. However, we will see what Incomedia have to say.
Autore
It is definitely not dropbox! I have tested that
Hello Siddhi
I've checked all of the tests you already perform but something you indicated struck me.
"The first saving went well. The second time I open any of my project and try to save they all fail in the same way.!!!"
Is this true for a new project as well? What I mean is, if you create a new project, I assume everything goes well. Correct?
But if you shut it down and then try to reopen it, it won't work anymore?
If this is true, it is definitely due to some fault in your Windows permission settings or Antivirus. When a project is first opened, all edits are performed differently.
When you open up the project a second time, the software is supposed to apply edits to pre-existing files. Your system is locking these files down after they're saved the first time thus disallowing further edits
This is something that cannot be controlled by the software
Please check carefully that the project folder has all permissions set and no antivirus or third-party program can interfere. If you still encounter the same issue, I can only recommend a full Windows reset since something is clearly off with permissions
Let me know what you think
Thank you
Stefano

Do you have anything to say about what I mentioned concerning the AppData folder and the user name Ägaren?
Siddhi, have you resolved your problem after following Stefano's advice?
I do not believe there is any issue with the AppData folder and the user name Ägaren.
I still believe the issue revolves around dropbox and would be happy to describe how I would go about proving it (or excluding it).
Hope all is going well.
I have exactly the same problem after upgrading to 2020.3.4. I get the attached message. The three lines in danish means "Access to the path denied".
When trying to export the project I get the second message in the attachment. The danish text says "One or more errors occurred".
I have tried all what I can read in this thread. Even to delete the project and start again with a project from 2020.2.6.
Still same problem.
Autore
Thank you Vagn, for sharing the same problem! The fact that I am not alone with this problem, shows that it is a bug in the program. I wonder if, by chance, your user name in windows contains any danish letter, like Ø?
I ask because I know that some programs have problems with certain language dependent characters when they appear in a system folder like AppData
When we get the message that "Access to the path denied", only the programmer knows what path. So the programmer has to answer
Hi Siddhi
No special characters in names, but sure there are a lot of Æ's, Ø's and Å's in the site. Never caused any problems.
Vagn, if you zip your "broken" project as Siddhi has done, how big is it?
I am sure Incomedia will be interested in this development
(my head hurts - I was sure it was dropbox at the core :-(.

I think I have found a solution for the problem: run the program as an administrator! Possibly even installing the program as an administrator. This shouldn't be needed, but it solves the problem.
Siddhi, running WebSite X5 as an administrator is very much needed (WebSite X5 needs full rights and permissions to work properly), and is something I asked you to try early on in the thread:
Anyway, all's well that ends well, and glad you appear to have resolved your issue.
Autore
It has always been sufficient to have the user account as an administrator. Now you also have to right click on the program icon, choose "un as administrator". That's the new one
Yes, that's correct... right-click and select 'Run as administrator'
Or you can edit the program's shortcut to save you having to do this every time.
