Import Website Backup files from website host  en

I have always built my website (wildabout.ie) using Website X5.  My latest version was done on WebsiteX5 V16.3.1.  This was directly uploaded to my webhost.  I also have a back up on onecloud.  However, my laptop had a fatal crash, I've reinstalled Website X5 but am unable to upload my backup files from one drive as they don't seem to be iwzip files.  The website is live on the webhost, I can access all the files, is it possible to save the files from my http and import them into Website X5?

The main issue is Paypal Cart is not working on the live site.  Itgives error message unable to connect to DB? (wildabout.ie/imlogin.phplanding_page=cart%2Findex.html%3F%23step2skip3&redirect_after_registration=true&cart=true)

I'm thinking this is something to do with the registration I set up on that version, what I need to know is if there is any way I can delete this instruction to enable to cart to work, so the website is functional?

I'm a bit of a luddite, so I'd very much appreicate anyone's advise on (a) how I can import the files back into WebsiteX5 so I could open and amend from the application (b) how can I fix the error which is stopping the live site cart from functioning, then giving me time to sort out the rest !

Much appreicated team

Fiona

Hello Fiona,

It is not possible to import from website, if you have not made a backup in step5 export project (you should do this regurly and save on another medium then the drive your project is on) then you can only start from scratch again.

You can use the picture's and text from website to copy them into your x5 project but that's about all you can save.

It will save you some work but a lot you need to do over again.
Make sure (specially during creation of a new project) to make a regular backup with step5 export project!

Thats the thing I have saved a back up, but when I go into the 'website backup' file I have on my onedrive, which I've downloaded to my desktop, its a pile of folders admin, captcha, cart, gallery, images etc.  I can't select these to import becuase they are not iwzip files, yet they were downloaded as a back up from the Website X5 application. I just need to know how I can import these files back into the application to update the website and reupload it.

Fiona, there is unfortunately much confusion about WX5 backups.

There is the built in backup which requires the project folder to remain in tact and creates only a backup of an important file, then there is step 5 where you can upload your website to the internet (puts your website online - this is not a backup), export the website to disk (your website on your local HD, exactly same files as would be uploaded - not a backup) export the project (creates an iwzip file - this is a true and complete backup which you can import onto any PC running the correct version/s of WX5

(You should create an iwzip file regularly (& rename with date at time of creation for multiple fall-backs), iwzip files will only exist if you go to step5 Export Project. A great place to store iwzip files is one drive.)

Then there is the "manual" backup where the user copies the whole project folder to somewhere else or synchronises the project folder with the likes of one drive (not a great idea).

Unfortunately the files you describe and the screen shot you have posted is that of the generated website (export website to disk), you will find that if you open your files online the content will be almost identical to that on your one drive.

With the exception of the source and webfolders in this screen shot below, this is what your project folder should hold if you wish to be able to open and edit the project.

From the information you have provided it appears that your only route is as laid out by Andre, copy and paste content from the published website into a new project. As Andre said, you cannot open or recreate a project from generated website files.

However

Your online site was generated in v2019.3.17 not v16 (content="Incomedia WebSite X5 Pro 2019.3.17 - www.websitex5.com"). You say that your laptop/pc collapsed, if the HD did not get destoyed/overwritten (documents directory in particular), is it possible your project could still exist and you have been looking in the wrong folder?

If you were running v16 the default folder was probably Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v16 - Professional, but as you appear to have been working in v2019 then the default folder is different (Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 - Pro)

If you have not already done so please install v2019.3 and check

I hope you get lucky.

(if all else fails - in the past I have successfully restored a folder from a hard drive that had been formatted and a new copy of Windows installed, I have used both getdataback and easus data recovery)

The only way for working with html/php files is to use other programm that could import project from html/php files.
