Hi again guys.  Did not think it would be so soon before I had to contact you again.

Got an email from Google  that said:

"Coverage issues detected on http://www.lutondunstablepc.org/

To the owner of http://www.lutondunstablepc.org/:

Search Console has identified that your site is affected by 1 Coverage issues:

Top Errors

Errors can prevent your page or feature from appearing in Search results. The following errors were found on your site:

Server error (5xx)

We recommend that you fix these issues when possible to enable the best experience and coverage in Google Search".

I followed their verification process and they said I had to upload a file to my website.  I did this and put it in the settings>advanced>stats and code>code>bottom section 'files linked to HTML code'.

I don't know if this has fixed the issue or not, but can you confirm that I've put it in the correct place or not please?

Has this arisen becuase I've gust posred another question regarding our server not being on the right PHP version.  This was fixed by our host, then i got the email from google.

Hello Graham,

It takes a while for Google to work through any updates which you make to your site.  They are always a little behind any changes and edits you make.

In all probability the coverage issue referred to is the one you have just fixed in conjunction with your webhost (especially as it refers to a 500 server error).  From experience I expect the issue would disappear (from Google Search Console) of its own accord after a certain period of time, but there are ways of expediting the process:

Google Search Console validation process

As regards the verification file you uploaded...  unfortunately that's not the correct place for such a file.  Delete the reference to the file from within WebSite X5, then upload the verification file which Google provided into the root folder of your WebSite X5 project on the server (the root folder is the same folder which contains your index.html file).  You can use any third-party FTP client to do this (such as FileZilla), or you can use the built-in FTP engine in Step 5 of WebSite X5:

https://help.websitex5.com/en/v2020.3/pro/index.html?esp_internet.htm (use the option 'Upload file to server' described in the help)

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi paul

I've just looked in the server files and that Google file is in public/files - not the root folder.  I'm going to try to add it into the root folder.

Done it!

I'll now use the way to expedite the google process and hopefully all goog again.

Thanks again for your prompt help.
