I upgraded to 2022.3.6; the selected pdf file in the Preview area of the PDF File object no longer shows.
If the file isn't correctly located then the 404 graphic shows, and if the file is correctly located then the preview is just a black square.
A future bug fix please...

Hello. Please provide a link to the website page with the problem. Also, please provide a PDF file for testing.
I can confirm the statement, tested with Evo 2022.3.6 - here are the results:
1) Test PDF: https://wiso.uni-hohenheim.de/fileadmin/einrichtungen/wiso/PDF/Lehre/Anleitung_zum_OEffnen_von_PDF-Formularen.pdf
Preview: Dark rectangle
2) like 1), but last letter of URL removed
Preview: 404 error page
3) Test PDF from your own hard drive
Preview: No preview
And the internal browser preview takes an extremely long time to display the embedded PDF, if it displays that PDF at all.
With the 2nd click on preview, the program reacts very slowly before it even displays a blank preview, probably totally overloaded with calculations.
I checked your file. It doesn't show up in the preview in the program. But it is displayed in the preview in the built-in browser and in Firefox.
I did not notice any slowdown in the program or browsers.
I don't have any PDF readers installed. But I can view these files in a browser.
I tested it on my notebook with 2 new templates, a template that has already been edited several times and with the Evo and Pro versions, which I sometimes had to end via the task manager because they were somehow blocked.
The problem with the integration of PDF files occurs above all with the Evo version and the selection "Type: iframe". If there are problems, try "Type: Google Viewer".
It can also be due to the current state of the computer if there are problems.

I don't wish to use google viewer as sometimes it has a problem loading on user browsers.
The preview fail is in the X5 authoring; the pdf shows fine in the x5 previewer or user's browser when published - but in x5 it shows either as 404 message if it can't find the file, or it is supposed to show a preview of the pdf if the path is valid - but if the path is valid instead it shows just a black box (as per the example attached in the first message).

Hello Adrian
Is this page with the PDF online currently online?
If yes, can you please share the URL with me here?
I will personally check the page for you to see if any error is clearly visible
Thank you

maybe I didn't understand , but I see the pdf...
The problem is the preview display of the PDF file. If it's a local PDF then there is no preview and if it's an external PDF there is a dark gray rectangle.

That is correct - the object view is a grey box, but the web view is fine.
Previous version would display the object view correctly.
Hello Adrian
I've reported the issue to the developers so that it can be verified
I'll notify you here as soon as news on this becomes available
