Software Freezes All The Time since Update  en

I’ve rebooted several times, but it hasn’t helped. After every page edit, the software becomes unresponsive for at least a minute. Every single edit. Oh boy…

Having to wait another minute after every little change is incredibly frustrating. You’re spending more time waiting for the software to let you continue than actually building your website. It’s driving me crazy.

New gadgets are fun, but rolling them out on large projects causes more damage than you seem willing to acknowledge. Otherwise, this wouldn’t have become a tradition.

Please help me reinstall the previous version, because working like this is simply unbearable.

I’ve now managed to reinstall the previous version. What you hope for with a software update is that existing problems get resolved. And over the past few weeks, that was actually happening. I almost felt as though, while I was working on a major project, the developers were delivering updates tailored to it—making the work faster and gradually reducing the mountain ahead of me.

Then someone decides it’s time to throw another rock into the pond, and once again, I’m the one getting soaked.

To help narrow down the issue: my last changes in the new version involved editing an order button and replacing a few photos. Those changes went smoothly.

The problems started when I began converting a four-column layout into a three-column layout, rearranging objects and creating space in the rows. From that point on, every edit was followed by at least a minute of unresponsiveness.

This may help you reproduce the problem: it seems to be triggered by restructuring the page layout. I was working on a large project, so that may also be relevant.

One more detail: the page was in “development mode”. The software has had trouble handling this mode for a long time. If that contributed to the issue, it certainly hasn’t improved in the new version.

Hello Raoul,
I am sorry about the issue.
Does the project have a large amount of empty spaces/rows in one or more pages?
Could you please provide a copy of it, and give me some examples of edits you attempted, and on which pages, so that I can try to replicate the same behavior?
If available, you can send a copy from 2026.2 and tell me in what section you changed the layout to follow the same steps.
You can export it in Step 5 - Export, choosing the “Export the project” option to generate an IWZIP file, making sure not to use the options to include backup and preview files so that the size of the file is reduced.
You can then upload the file with SwissTransfer, TransferNow or similar services, and provide a download link to support @ incomedia.eu (without the spaces).
Thank you.

By "Development mode" do you mean the page was flagged as "Under Construction"?

Dear Eric and team,

Regarding the empty rows: I had three blank rows to give me room to reorganise the page I was working on. The page is called “Pagina 622” in the project file I will send to your support team.

By “development mode”, I meant the setting labelled “In ontwikkeling” in the Dutch version, which I understand is “Under Construction” in English. In the project I am sending you, I have already unchecked that setting. Remembering previous difficulties with it, I decided to disable it before proceeding further.

To clarify, editing the page caused no noticeable problems in version 2026.2.8. To reproduce the circumstances, please first mark the page as “Under Construction” in that version, then open and convert the project in the new version.

I have since made further edits to the page, so the file no longer reflects its exact layout when the problem first occurred. I suggest adding a few empty rows and moving objects around while changing the layout from four columns to three, as that was what I was doing when the problems started.

Thank you for investigating.

Hello Raoul,
I was not able to replicate the issue, so far.
I can see that the page in question has a much higher number of columns initially, rather than 4: did you perhaps divide it into sections, and set only some of them as 4 columns and later 3?

Hi Eric,

Thank you for looking into this so quickly.

I may be misunderstanding your approach, but I assumed you requested the 2026.2.8 project to investigate whether something went wrong during conversion to the new version, since editing in 2026.2.8 works smoothly for me. Could the conversion produce an issue that does not occur consistently every time?

As mentioned, I continued working in the old version. The supplied backup files should allow you to return to an earlier state where there were still four photos in a row, rather than the three I eventually settled on. That may help explain the difference between the layout you are seeing and the one I described.

I will also send you the project files I was using in version 2026.3, so you can examine those directly.

On a broader point, Eric, I do not mean to be difficult, but I would ask you and the team to reread some of the replies customers receive when reporting problems. Put yourselves in the customer’s position and consider what those replies actually communicate—not just whether the wording is clear, but what the response means to someone trying to get their work done.

The recurring question about “too many” empty cells is one example. How long has this been an issue now? As you know, I have been using the software since 2015. Whether empty cells are involved in this particular problem is a separate matter. Simply being asked the same question again, after all these years, is frustrating. If this is a known limitation, why does it remain unresolved, with users still expected to work around it?

I have plenty of reasons to remain a loyal user. But when the same difficulties persist for ten years or more, I think it is reasonable to question why they are still coming up in support replies.

For this investigation, my suggestion is to examine the 2026.3 files I will send, alongside an earlier state restored from the 2026.2.8 project and its supplied backups. I hope that helps you reproduce the behaviour and find the cause.

Meanwhile, I have now worked out how to keep two versions installed side by side. From now on, I will test each update with my own workflow before moving away from the previous version. Apparently, it also took me ten years to arrive at an obvious solution—but I got there eventually.

Thank you again for your time and effort.

Hello Raoul,
I was not clear in my explanation: I converted your project into v2026.3, so that I could test if I encountered the issues you described or not after the conversion, but could not reproduce the same behavior, this is why I asked for clarifications as some things on the page did not match your description.
I checked our inbox, but did not see a new download link for a project.

I can understand your frustration, and will report your feedback, as this for example is an aspect that has been able to generate issues for quite some time.

no worries, SwissTransfer confirmed the transfer (SpamBox)? Perhaps the thing expired during the weekend, will redo and checked the time window this time (14 days)

Hello Raoul,
I did receive this link, and in this version of the project I did encounter some slowdowns: when trying to add a Text object in one of the empty cells, nothing occurred for 1-2 minutes or so, and when trying to add other objects, or editing these new objects, I had to wait for 10-20 seconds.
The times can differ depending on the computer, but does the description match what you encountered?

Hi Eric,

I launched the new version and recorded a video, with the process’s memory and CPU usage visible in the background.

It took 22 minutes to start up. During that time, I alternated between using Chrome and leaving it idle, but that did not seem to make any noticeable difference to the progress indicator as the software created files—after apparently initialising the existing ones first.

Now here’s the funny part, Eric: I can no longer reproduce the problem on my own computer. With the camera ready, and after that extremely slow startup, the software ran smoothly. There wasn’t even the 20-second wait you described—it was genuinely responsive.

Later this week or next week, I’ll convert the project to the new software version again, and we’ll see what happens then.

In the meantime, feel free to change the topic title from “Software Freezes All the Time Since Update” to “Software Freezes Some of the Time Since Update”. :-)

Greetings

P.S. If you’d like a copy of the video or the project after the latest rendering, just let me know.

Hello Raoul,
should you encounter the same behavior you initially ran into, please send me a screen recording, for the time being I will report the slowdowns I did reproduce.

Hello Raoul,
update 2026.3.6, released today as a Beta, added improvements to mitigate slowdowns in these situations.
Checking with the latest project you send, the wait after adding an object is only a few seconds long.
We will try to further minimize this, a recommendation in the meantime is to divide the page into sections now that they are available.
For example, adding a section after the area with empty cells, between rows 7 and 8, I no longer encountered noticeable loading or waiting times when adding an object there.
