Hi friends

can V11 PRO reproduce a Powerpoint file from DROPBOX?

I pasted the dropbox-link in X5 version 11, and nothing happens, not in the preview, nor in the web.  Blank page.

Any idea?, please help.

Thanks

Hello Andre,

Are you using the designated PPT/PPS File Widget in Step 3, or just an ordinary hyperlink?

Try using the 'Preview on another browser' feature built-in to WebSite X5...  see the attached screenshot for details on where to find this:

If you refer to my screenshot you should be able to see the 'Preview in another browser' option?

It is in the top-right hand corner of the screen once you enter the WebSite X5 preview.

A little drop-down menu will open when you click on the icon...

OK thanks, I was not aware of this possibiloity, it is great to learn new features.

So I tried this,

In Chrome, stays blank
In Iexplorer it asks for opening a new window and then shows a sequence of the pictures in the PPT file.

My questions:

what happens in Chrome? is there a plugin to repruduce PPT files?
In all browsers: is there any possibility to reproduce real PPT files as created in Powerpoint?

To be honest I'm not really sure, Andre...  perhaps someone else will chip in?

I suspect the reason for the difference between the browsers is that PowerPoint is a proprietary format created and owned by Microsoft, hence support would be strongest in their own browser, IE.

As to solutions for viewing online, you might find this article useful:

http://www.free-power-point-templates.com/articles/view-powerpoint-files-online/

Alternatively, you could consider converting the PPT file to PDF, for example, using a file conversion facility such as these:

http://www.zamzar.com/convert/ppt-to-pdf/

http://www.docspal.com/

However, you did say that you wanted to "reproduce real PPT files as created in Powerpoint", so perhaps the first option is better.

Sorry I can't help further.  If you find a reliable, working solution to the issue please feel free to share it with us for future reference...  that would be much appreciated!

OK Paul, thanks for your efforts and for your kind collaboration.

I will check out all possible solutions and if I find out how, I will publish it.

I just cannot understand why this Widget is incorporated in WSx5 if there is no way to use it correctly.

Anyway, I can survive without it, but if includdes, should work.

Kind regards

You make a good point, Andre.  Having never had occasion to link to PowerPoint files within X5 before I have never considered this until now.

I can understand why X5 might not be able to preview PPT files within the software itself, as PowerPoint is not open source, but I am curious like yourself as to the benefits of the PPT Widget.

Hopefully some other user can shed more light on this, or perhaps we will get a comment from Claudio or one of the other members of the Incomedia team.

Hello Andre and Paul,

I found this recent post : http://answers.websitex5.com/post/105831

Google translation :

basically the object to insert in PowerPoint presentations insert an iframe on the page which should be displayed by browsers and enterpreted with their pluginsFor now, howeverdue to compatibility issues and differences in management browsersthe presentation in PowerPoint is not displayed and the browser asks where to save the PPT/PPS filelinked to its pageSo until this is not resolved by our sector development, advise turning the presentation into a PDF file or video for it can display correctly on your website.

Hope this helps you?

@+, J.P.

Thank you very much, Jiper!  I found the information very useful...  that explains a lot.

And thanks too for the Google translation, otherwise I would not have understood the post.

Much obliged,

Paul

OK Jiper

That is exactly what I will do.
PPT can be imported in Nero for instance, and then be exported to a movie.

The PWPT timing is NOT a hundred % respected, but it works.

I stll wonder why the widget is included, if it cannot be used and causes lots of problems.

\\anyway, thanks for explaining

Andre
