Normally my installation of X5 Evolution 11 never is able to connect to the server to check for updates. Now it shows an update available but again I get the error message "unable to connect to the Incomedia server" etc.
Is there a fix for this? I cannot find it on the boards.
Otherwise, is it possible to download the update as a standalone file and install it that way?

That error message is usually caused by over-zealous anti-virus and/or firewalls, and use of proxy servers, etc.
However, it is possible to download the standalone file. You will always be able to download the most recent version of your WebSite X5 software from the 'Downloads' section of your profile here on answers.websitex5.com:
Just install the current version directly over your existing installation, but be sure to close WebSite X5 first. It's always a wise idea to backup your projects before updating.

Another thanks, Paul, for the tip about firewalls. I run my computer on a secure network and thought I would have to go through the hassle of getting the security admins to unblock X5.
BECAUSE though I successfully downloaded the update I could not get through to the server to activate it, and so could not start the program at all.
Thankfully you had put firewalls into my mind so I checked Windows firewall and found that if I added both the main application and the update application it all works fine after rebooting the computer.
If others have that problem they might like to get into Windows firewall setting and add the apps to the list of unblocked apps.
