Problem uploading pdf-file.  en

I'm linking to a PDF file, where the content in PDF file is updated periodically. The problem is that the latest version of the PDF file is not uploaded to the web server.

I have tried "Ctrl + Preview", and uploaded the entire project but none of these solves the problem. X5 is uploading the PDF file to web server but it is not the correct version. I also checked this with FTP client.

If you have the PDF file embedded as an internal file, you must update each in WX5 in the project, ie to integrate new, so that the new version will be recognized the next upload.
If you include the PDF file as an external file, it must be uploaded manually on the server,
There is also the possibility the new pdf file with the same name as before upload simply directly on the server.

JJ.

Hi Bjorn.

Maybe for some reason the old file doesn't get updated instead of not loading the correct version.

Try and remove it from the software, then re add the pdf file.

Then, before exporting, eliminate the old pdf file from the server and upload it all again.

Let me know

This is a bug in XP. Have tested this on different PCs and the same thing happens on all PCs.

Hi Bjorn.

If you remove the PDF file from the webhost, and change the PDF file inside the software you tell me the old one will be reuploaded instead.

Does this also happen if you delete the old pdf file in your Documents/incomedia/Website version/Project folder/Upload and Preview folders?

Try and let me know

YES.

"Does this also happen if you delete the old pdf file in your Documents/incomedia/Website version/Project folder/Upload and Preview folders?"
YES. I deleted the file in \Preview\files. X5 still load the old version.

Bjorn

I have had this issue and it was caused by the webhost having a different timezone to my PC, effectively the files on the host thought they were newer than I was uploading for almost 24 hours.

To fix the problem I always change the name of the pdf file I am attaching locally, eg filename-1.pdf, then the next time I make a change filename-2.pdf, etc This way website X5 will always upload the new pdf.

If that doesn't work I suspect you are saving to one place, but uploading from another.

I created a folder in my project called web. I export the website to web and then run filezilla to upload the files.  This gives me absolute control of the file transfer process.

This problem is related to WebSite X5 who is copying the wrong file to webserver.

Hi Bjorn.

If you follow Esahc suggestion and try to change the PDF name and relink it on your software ,does it get uploaded instead?

I would need to ask you to test this behavior a little bit in order to properly understand what can be causing the issue as the software is supposed to work the same way on every platform.

Also, which version of WebSite are you running under XP?

Let me know

Sorry for my bad English or if my description of the problem is not good enough!

I'm using WebSite X5 ver. 12 on Windows 10.

There is no problem if I change PDF name and relink the file. The problem is that X5 don't upload latest version of the PDF file to web server. I have to upload it with my ftp client.

  1. I links to PDF files (20 pieces) uploaded from my PC.
  2. Everything OK.
  3. Changes contents of all PDF files.
  4. I update project and load everything up to the web server.
  5. X5 uploading old version and not the latest version.
  6. I check "Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v12 - Professional\"name"\Preview\files" and there is only old version of the files.

When entering the linking locally the pdf file is taken over by WX5. To update this you have to call the PDF file in the link so that it is re-acquired and is then uploaded via ftp.
The adaptation of the PDF file is not automatically acquired by websitex5.

JJ.

Alternatively, you can also link to an external file (http: // ....) use and the PDF file upload separately (same name, same place!)

Bjorn, JJ is correct. If you update a PDF you must also go into WebsiteX5 and relink the file. I force myself to do this by changing the name when I modify the PDF, then I have no choice but to modify the link in WebsiteX5. It always works.

Unless you are prepared to update WebsiteX5 every time you modify a pdf, you have no choice but to manually upload the new pdf.

Very interesting.

How it works for me.

  1. Attach file in project via SEO (step 4) in Expert tab.
  2. For uploading updated file:
  • Remove attached file and click OK (close SEO).
  • Reopen SEO and reattach file.
  • Go to uploading site with select only updated files

Bjorn you are right autoupdate for attached files not works. Because the file gets to the library and is no longer updated. Only manualy .

I am not sure why you would do it this way when you can simply attach a link to an image or a piece of text on a webpage.

On this website I frequently have to replace/update the attached pdf's

My conclusion is that there is something wrong in the X5. When I tell it to upload all my new projects files to web server, it should do so!

I hope you fix this problem soon.
