Hi I have X5 Pro 14 and have changed the default location for saved files from C: to another hard disk on D: This works for a while then for no reason reverts back to saving in the default location. I wish it to stay in the location I choose which is not on the C: drive.

William, is this alternate location a network or NAS drive, an internal HD or a USB drive?

Are you an Administrator in Windows?

(you should be aware of numerous posts on this helpcentre where the issue/problem/fault was finally narrowed down to the use of a USB drive when working on projects)

Hi Esahc, yes I have seen some of the other posts. I am an administrator in windows. The 2nd HDD is an internal SSD. I have set the folder to point to the SSD. It works for a while but after a few restarts of the program the location reverts to default.

William, if I can think of any reason for this I will offer a comment or ask a question, in the meantime I have requested Incomedia's attention.

Just a question before I knock off. Have you simply pointed the default at your new D drive, or did you use Windows Explorer to relocate all documents on the D: instead of c:\users\yourname?

BTW if you want a discussion on the best way to speed up your PC, please feel free to contact me via www.esahc.com :-)  -   sadly this is not the right forum.

I have noticed this after doing/installing an update. Directly after installing of the update there is a button [Start program]. Don't use it.

Close the window and than start the program. NOW your default project directory is as your made it by yourself..

I have re-located the docs folders etc via windows explorer to my D: drive. I then pointed the location of the software to a folder on my D: drive. As I have said this works for a while then for no apparent reason it reverts to the default location.

Is this problem only affecting WX5?

eg If you click on documents (either from the start menu or Windows Explorer), do you see the new or old location for documents?

It sounds like a Windows issue.

Esahc it only affects x5. I have never had a problem with the location of any of the folders that i have re-located to my F: drive. I have done this since Win XP. I like to keep my docs, pics etc on a seperate drive.

Claudio I run Win10 Pro 64bit.

cheers

I too save WX5 projects to an alternative drive, but I suspect I do it differently to you. In your case I suspect you have created a folder on drive D and set it as the default.

On my system, I moved all the documents. In "this PC" if I click on documents, the system opens D:\docs (instead of c:\users\username\documents).

With this setting, I allow WX5 to use the default directory (documents\Incomedia\WX5 Professional V14) into which it creates project folders.

So if you click on Documents and your d:\documents opens, wouldn't allowing WX5 to use the default directory work for you?

Hi ESAHC,

You are correct. I have made new folders on the D: drive and did the same as you and "moved" the contents of each folder over and set them as the default location. If I click on the folders they open the same as yours "D:\docs" this is the recommended way Microsoft advise on moving the default location. I have no problems with any other programs or saving data to the drive only with X5? This is not a big problem just annoying when it happens lol. If I cant sort it I will just leave the x5 default location and set a backup from there.

This is very odd. On my computer the default is a folder inside the documents directory which is on D, there is no documents folder on C for WX5 to default to.

I am at a bit of a loss for now.

Hello William,

As it seems there is something which is resetting the used settings back to the default like for https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/pl/post/185925

It could be a program or a setting is probably reverting all to the default settings or in the installation folder or in the AppData folder.

Try please to repair the .NET Frameworks by following these steps:

Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off
Clear the check box for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and then click on OK. Clear also the check box for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 (or 4.7) and then click on OK.
After Windows disables the feature you will need to go back to re-enable Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and 4.6 (or 4.7) and then click ok.

Once done test it please again and keep me updated.

Hi Esahc, my setup is exactly the same as yours. All documents, music, pictures etc have been moved to the D drive and they operate same as yours i.e. a folder inside the documents directory which is on D, there is no documents folder on C. I will give the .NET frameworks repair a go but this will be the last time I spend on the matter I will just make a backup of the default location. Not a big deal really.
